  • 295: Assigning blame for the Seahawks offseason - It's the Giants' fault

    22/05/2020 Duración: 01h50min

It's the first show of the second half of the Seahawks offseason, just past the Seahawkquinox, and there were a lot of strange things to happen at the apex of the offseason. First, we discuss the rumor that apparently was being thrown around two years ago, but was apparently only worth reporting now that Russell Wilson is being considered as the second-most untradeable player in the offseason. We go back to the initial audio that sparked the flurry of stories as Chris Simms seemed to downplay a rumor he didn't believe was worth following up on at the time. Another story that we don't have a clear picture of is what happened leading up to the arrest warrant being issued for the new Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar. The story from the initial report was that Dunbar was involved in a robbery, but not long after the reports had changed and stories from witnesses had evolved to Dunbar having left the scene before the robbery took place. We also discuss team news like Geno Smith coming back to the Seahawks and a

  • Bonus: The INs and OUTs of the 2020 Seahawks Schedule

    11/05/2020 Duración: 48min

The Seattle Seahawks 2020 schedule is out and every year for the last few years now Dave Bloomquist, one of our long-time members of the flock, joins the show to dig deep into the schedule. Dave looks at the rest days for the team and finds where there are some of the toughest stretches of the upcoming season regardless of the strength of opponent. We also take a look back into history to see where the team performs well, and doesn't perform so well, to start the season. Clinton Bonner joins the show this year as well and so we mash up the format of his usual show with the schedule release and have a little offseason fun.  Support the show Get in the Flock! • 294: Seattle Seahawks 2020 Draft Recap

    30/04/2020 Duración: 01h52min

The Seattle Seahawks went into the draft with a need to improve the pass rush and came away with two defensive ends. Can Darrell Taylor and Alton Robinson help make up the difference with Jadeveon Clowney looking like he may not return to the team? Jarran Reed taking his old number back is the latest clue that Clowney has plans to go to another team this offseason. Two more players who won't be back are Justin Britt and D.J. Fluker. While Fluker got a lot of love on his way out the door, there didn't seem to be as much there for Britt. After we talk about the player departures, we go pick by pick through the latest additions starting with the team's newest linebacker Jordyn Brooks. Every year the Seahawks release some of the best calls to their draft picks to let them know they're being selected and this year's winning call went to their seventh round pick Stephen Sullivan. Every year of the draft we have to decode what the team was taking into consideration as to why they approached the draft the way that th

  • The Seahawks close out the 2020 NFL Draft with five picks on Day 3

    26/04/2020 Duración: 49min

Our bonus daily coverage of the 2020 NFL Draft wraps up with a look at the Seahawks Day 3 selections. Did the Seahawks fully address their needs or do they have more work to do before the start of the season?  What kind of immediate impact could their new group have on the team? Rob Staton of the Seahawks Draft Blog is back on the podcast as we talk about all five of the picks from the third day of the draft. Colby Parkinson was a player who was talked about as a potential first round pick only a year ago and they were able to select him in the fourth round. The Seahawks added running back Deejay Dallas as players of his build were becoming more scarce in the draft. Seattle doubled up on edge rushers by taking Alton Robinson in the fifth round and closed out their day with two wide receivers: Freddie Swain of Florida and Stephen Sullivan of LSU. We close out the show talking about what it could mean for the roster and the flexibility it offers them to make moves if they find themselves in a situation where th

  • Seattle Seahawks 2020 NFL Draft Day 2 Reaction

    25/04/2020 Duración: 30min

The Seahawks made a big move near the start of Day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft to move up and select pass rusher Darrell Taylor of Tennessee. They gave up their 3rd round compensatory pick to make the move, but were able to add a mid-fourth round pick by trading back from the final pick of the second round. In the third round, at pick 69, Seattle went with another SEC player in the trenches. Rob Staton of Seahawks Draft Blog joins the podcast and says he had LSU guard Damien Lewis consistently projected to go in the top 50. Although the Seahawks have been stocking up on guard this offseason, he immediately jumps into the competition for a starting spot. Post 'Go Hawks' in the comments for the latest

  • Reacting to the Seahawks selection after the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft

    24/04/2020 Duración: 24min

The Seattle Seahawks stayed put on the first day of the draft and selected Texas Tech linebacker Jordyn Brooks. Rob Staton of Seahawks Draft Blog comes back on the show to react to the pick. With so many needs on the team, it's difficult for fans to accept that the Seahawks have now used their top draft asset as the biggest needs for the team remain the biggest needs.

  • 293: Pre-draft coverage with Rob Staton of Seahawks Draft Blog

    22/04/2020 Duración: 01h03min

We've got Rob Staton back on the podcast for one last show before the draft. Prior to the show, we listened in to the press conference with Pete Carroll and John Schneider and discuss some of our takeaways regarding the ongoing situation with Jadeveon Clowney, the state of the Seahawks pass rush, and how the focus on the offensive line in free agency. Considering the lack of immediate contributors at the defensive end spot, it may be better for the Seahawks to look toward the defensive interior or consider weapons for Russell Wilson either at receiver or at running back. Rob talks about how Jonathan Taylor can't help but talk about the Seahawks even when he's asked about other NFL teams. At the Seahawks Draft Blog, there's a draft board that is loaded with potential Seahawks draft picks that Rob believes should be on Pete and John's radar when it comes to the different rounds. Sure, there may be some surprises, but if you study up on that list, it's likely you'll become familiar with players who Seattle ultim

  • 292: Greg Olsen learns the culture of the Seahawks TE group, ranking the 2020 quarterback draft class

    16/04/2020 Duración: 01h44min

This show starts off by recapping the Seahawks news from the past two weeks, including the sad news of former Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson passing away this week. In free agency news, Seattle continues to add to the offensive line by bringing back Mike Iupati. What does this mean for the team in terms of how they approach the 2020 draft and which players are going to be competing for which positions? With the draft beginning next week, we discuss the similarities and differences from previous drafts. Even though there are some glaring needs on defense, the team could continue to look for weapons to surround Russell Wilson with early on in the draft. With the offseason being very different this year, it could also change the way teams may want to think about their rookie players going into next season. The Seahawks recently posted a video on the tight ends position room where Greg Olsen was introduced to the current group of Seattle tight ends. To say that he'll bring a higher level of maturity to the

  • 291: Seahawks draft prospects on the offensive and defensive line

    09/04/2020 Duración: 01h33min

Times are tough for some of the 2020 NFL Draft prospects. Particularly those prospects who would have been able to shine in front of NFL scouts at the various team Pro Days across the country. While there are quite a few players to feel sympathy for, there is a subset of players for which Rob Staton has no sympathy. Rob talks about a few players who had an opportunity to compete at the NFL Combine and chose not to ultimately missed out on what ended up being their last chance to display their athleticism. One Seahawks free agent has been significantly impacted by his inability to meet with teams and get looked over by medical staff is Jadeveon Clowney. Considering the Seahawks biggest need has been to add to the defensive line, they've done little to add high impact talent to a group that finished at the bottom of the NFL in so many categories. Is Clowney, the coronavirus, or the Seahawks to blame for this? Getting back into Seahawks prospects, we take a look at players who can rush the passer as we learn who

  • 290: Evaluating the Frank Clark trade one year later, best Seahawks among NFL jersey numbers

    02/04/2020 Duración: 01h39min

The Seahawks made a couple moves in the last week of free agency and freeing up some salary cap space with the release of Ed Dickson and the announcement that Tedric Thompson would be released soon. With those two moves announced on the same day, Seahawks fans were anticipating bigger news. Instead, we learn that Jadeveon Clowney's public asking price has now dropped below the $20 million mark. At the very least, hopefully it means there is some resolution on the issue soon.  With some down time ahead of the NFL Draft later this month, we take a look back at the 2019 free agency period and the situation that led the Seahawks to trade Frank Clark and if that's a move that John Schneider would like to have back or if he would need to do all over again. What ultimately came of the draft picks that were exchanged with the Kansas City Chiefs? Though Ziggy Ansah was the biggest miss of the previous offseason, the risk may still have been worth the reward although we take a look at some of the other moves that ultim

  • 289: Time for Clowney to get off the fence, ranking the Seahawks best moves so far

    26/03/2020 Duración: 01h45min

The Seahawks are now into the second week of free agency and Jadeveon Clowney has not yet made a decision to return to the Seahawks or move on to another team. What is making this decision so difficult for Seattle's top pass rusher? In the meantime, the Seahawks made two moves that have some potential upside for the roster by sending a 5th round draft pick to Washington for a cornerback going into the final year of his contract. Quinton Dunbar received the 2nd highest coverage grade from PFF last season, but there is some important context for fans to at least be aware of before crossing off Tre Flowers as a member of the starting lineup in 2020. John Schneider also brought in a veteran wide receiver. Where does that move rank among his 10 best decisions so far this offseason? Especially considering what might be some of the best decisions on which players would stay in Seattle and which were allowed to move on. Despite the moves, there continue to be glaring spots for improvement along the defensive line. Mi

  • 288: What the CATFISH is John Schneider doing? Oh wait, that makes sense

    20/03/2020 Duración: 01h33min

It's incredible how things have changed in just the short time since our last episode. As we all deal with some of the many changes that we're working through, it's fun to take some time and think about things like Seahawks football. So with NFL free agency moving on as scheduled, the Seahawks are focusing primarily on the offensive line while adding a veteran pass rusher as Bruce Irvin returns to the Seahawks. Along the defensive line Jarran Reed returns to Seattle while Quinton Jefferson finds a new home in Buffalo. As Germaine Ifedi looks to make upwards of $10 million per season, John Schneider seems to have found a right tackle from the Jets who compares to Ifedi with one-third of the penalties. Jadeveon Clowney is still looking for a big time contract, too, but is time running out for him to make a deal? Seattle seems to have an inside track the longer we wait. Fan favorite Luke Wilson is also back with the team. Around the NFC West we look at some of the other major deals as DeAndre Hopkins is now goin

  • 287: Seahawks needs versus wants ahead of free agency

    12/03/2020 Duración: 01h24min

For the two months since the conclusion of the Seahawks season, every position group has now been dissected to the point that a person could be convinced that every area of the team has room to find improvement. Ahead of free agency next week, Adam and Brandan direct the focus toward what the Seahawks really need to find in free agency and away from the positions that could be considered as luxury moves. But if Seattle is going to have a championship offseason, their financial focus truly needs to be on positions of need. Teams can begin negotiating directly with players early next week, but is it possible that a contract for Clowney could come at the end of this week ahead of free agency? If he does decide to head out we talk about why Yannick Ngakoue isn't the answer and how there are several names in the free agent market who could be signed to help build a solid rotations of veterans along with the young players along the Seahawks line. Compensatory picks have been announced and we talk about which picks

  • 286: Ngakoue trade rumor clouds situation with Clowney, post-combine talk with Rob Staton

    06/03/2020 Duración: 57min

This week the rumor is that the Seattle Seahawks may be looking to trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars for their top defensive end Yannick Ngakoue. This could signal a few different things with regard to Jadeveon Clowney. Perhaps they've decided to move on from Clowney (a bit too early to seem likely), or it could be that they are trying to gauge the market before making their best offer to Clowney. It may be they want him in addition to keeping Clowney or they are simply doing their due diligence in case a deal falls through before free agency opens. Rob Staton of Seahawks Draft Blog joins the show to talk about an unlikely scenario, but one that could be worth considering with the talent that Clemson's Isaiah Simmons could bring to the NFL. Offensive line could be a prime target, but will any of the guys the Seahawks like be left by the end of the first round? Even with the deep receiver draft, Rob considers the idea that the Seahawks could fill their need for a possession receiver by taking a tight end. Su

  • 285: 2020 NFL Combine preview - How to look for potential future Seahawks

    24/02/2020 Duración: 01h28min

With some changes to the 2020 NFL Combine schedule, it's going to allow for more people to watch coming up on Thursday and Friday evening. Rob Staton of Seahawks Draft Blog joins the show to talk about some of the changes and go position-by-position through the combine on what the Seahawks are likely to be looking for based on their historical selections. If you're interested in particular position groups, or want to go back and focus on a particular position group, here are the areas of the show where we discuss the various positions and what to look for at the combine. They're also organized by date they'll be drilling on the field: Thursday, February 27th Wide Receiver (12:53) Quarterbacks (19:34) Tight End (24:52) Friday, February 28th Offensive Line (28:19) Running Back (37:41) Saturday, February 29th Defensive Line (51:11) Linebacker (1:05:08) Sunday, March 1st Cornerbacks (1:13:33) Safety (1:21:14) Subscribe via: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts | Stitcher | TuneIn | RSS Follow us on: Face

  • 284: Free agent news - Greg Olsen to the Seahawks, Jadeveon Clowney wants a market-setting contract

    20/02/2020 Duración: 01h23min

The first big news of the offseason hit on Tuesday this week as the Seahawks announced that they had agreed to terms with former Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen. While Seattle was in the market for a tight end this offseason considering the problems they had with depth at the position, is paying a 35-year-old the best approach. Brandan and Adam discuss the pros and cons of the situation and why the team could have felt that this was the best move to make. In the division, we saw what average tackles are going to start making as D.J. Humphries was re-signed by the Arizona Cardinals. That means that Germaine Ifedi is likely to move on. Could George Fant take Ifedi's spot or is Fant set on heading out of town so he can play at the left tackle spot? Reports of Jadeveon Clowney ran rampant this past week, but as we point out on the show this week, that when you visit the source material behind the story, the thing that sparked the issue is relatively benign. Of course Clowney wants the best deal possible. T

  • 283: Catfish the 49ers!

    06/02/2020 Duración: 01h43min

We start off the show by celebrating the Chiefs win over of NFC West rival and a fourth quarter collapse that allowed 21 fourth quarter points by Kansas City. As much heat as Kyle Shanahan is getting, very little criticism seems to be going toward the San Francisco defense for being anti-clutch in the final moments. We discuss the joy many Seahawks fans are experiencing with Richard Sherman unable to add a second title with his new team. Now that the 2019 season is officially behind us, what needs to change for the Seahawks in 2020. Does Pete Carroll's philosophy need to evolve, could Russell Wilson talk him into allowing the team to run a more up-tempo offense? Adam discusses how the Seahawks can increase their tempo without changing the mindset of being physical in the run game. The discussion leads toward free agency and which players the Seahawks may choose not to re-sign and also players they may cut to add some additional cap space. The biggest key to the offseason should be improving the pass rush and

  • 282: Closing out the Seahawks 2019 season

    17/01/2020 Duración: 01h33min

In what is becoming an overused narrative, the Seahawks did not try and force the run in the divisional round loss to the Green Bay Packers. As frustrating as it was to see once again the Seahawks trying to overcome a big first half deficit, the defenses inability to quickly adjust to the Packers plan to carve the defense with throws to Davante Adams. Even when Flowers tried to stay over the top of Adams in the second half, the receiver made the defense look foolish. Seattle was able to mount a comeback in the second half, but Russell Wilson was under duress for a majority of the game. Adam explains why we saw Pete Carroll and the Seahawks reluctant to "let Russ cook," because he could not survive an entire season taking the kind of hits that he did against the Packers defense. Fortunately, fans were treated to one big moment as Shaquem Griffin logged his first sack in what could have been a huge turning point in the game. The guys talk about the frustrations that fans have with Pete Carroll, what's next for

  • 281: Russell Wilson leads the Seahawks through Wild Card weekend

    07/01/2020 Duración: 50min

The Seahawks advance into the Divisional Round of the NFC playoffs after their 17-9 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Instead of boosting their takeaway numbers, this time around they boost their sack numbers. While the numbers may say that Russell Wilson stayed clean in the pocket, it felt a lot different while watching the game. Ultimately, it was Russell Wilson leading the way for the Seahawks, both on the ground and through the air, and his biggest target downfield was rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf.  While the overall numbers weren't impressive on the ground, Marshawn Lynch had three moments that stood out. Two of those moments involved Lynch driving defensive backs to the ground after catching a pass, and the other was a vintage Beast Mode run to get into the end zone. Adam and Brandan also discuss the Jadeveon Clowney hit on Carson Wentz and Doug Pederson's fourth quarter choices to go for touchdowns rather than field goals late in the game. • 280: A game of inches - the Seahawks game that embodied the cliche

    04/01/2020 Duración: 52min

The regular season is over, and playoff football starts this weekend. Though a different outcome of the 26-21 loss to the 49ers wouldn't have changed the fact that the Seahawks would be playing on the first weekend, it does change the venue. About one inch could have made a huge difference. Not just for the Seahawks, but for the entire NFC playoff picture. A overdue episode this week as Brandan is traveling and Adam had a Jeep to fix that left him stranded out of recording range. The guys get into the biggest moments from the Week 17 game against the 49ers and look ahead to the matchup with the Eagles on Sunday.
