On this podcast we visit with Iowa assistant basketball coach Kirk Speraw. He announced his retirement recently and will complete his coaching career at the end of June. We discuss his time with the Hawkeyes as a coach, getting to know Fran McCaffery once he was hired, when the chest bumping in the locker room started, his memories of coaching, what’s wrong with social media today, and talking about Luka Garza, Keegan Murray, and Nicholas Baer.

June is starting out as a month with a good amount of Hawkeye news. Matt Randazzo and Tom Kakert discuss the big news of the day, Matt Gatens being hired as an assistant coach for Iowa basketball. Why is he a great fit and what will be the recruiting impact? Then we turn to football recruiting and discuss a new commitment along the defensive line for the Class of 2023 and preview four official visitors this weekend.

This week on the podcast we are joined by Iowa offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Brian Ferentz. In a wide ranging discussion we dive into what it’s like on the recruiting trail in the NIL era. We also talk about becoming a quarterback coach and how he evaluates players at the position. We then discuss the Iowa run game, the play of the offensive line, and the receiver position after Charlie Jones moved on. We also have some fun and talk favorite movies and TV shows and how he celebrates a win.

A wide ranging podcast this time around. First, we are joined by Kenyon Murray to discuss the return of his son, Kris, to the Iowa basketball roster after testing the NBA waters. How did Kris improve as a player and why he came back to lead the Hawkeyes next season. Then we turn to talking Iowa baseball with Kyle Huesmann. He was in Omaha and gives us a rundown on Iowa’s performance. He also talks about the NCAA Tournament snub and we look ahead to big MLB decisions and the roster for next year.

With all the talk of NIL and boosters forming collectives, Iowa is getting involved with their own Swarm Collective, which will be officially launching shortly. We get a preview from one of our great message board posters Tx_Hawk, who is leading the group forming the Iowa booster collective. He gives Hawkeye fans a preview of what their goals and objectives are for the collective prior to the upcoming full reveal in the coming weeks.

A bonus podcast heading into the holiday weekend. We visit with the Director of Recruiting for Iowa Football, Tyler Barnes. We talk about the preferred start times for home games from a recruiting perspective, the growth of NIL and how much is it being brought up by prospects, and we talk about the coaches being back on the road with some new territories being opened up for the Iowa coaches. Plus, a huge June coming up for Iowa football recruiting including the largest group of officially visitors in the Ferentz era.

Plenty of news happening with the Iowa football program as an incoming recruit decides he’s not coming to Iowa two weeks before he’s supposed to report to campus and Charlie Jones surprisingly enters the transfer portal and leaves the Hawkeye program. Matt Randazzo and Tom Kakert discuss those topics, along with five star offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor setting up his five official visits and when he might be making a trip to Iowa City. Plus we give you the latest on Kris Murray and if he will be back with the Hawkeyes this fall.

Spring football is underway and this week on the podcast we are joined by Scott Dochterman from The Athletic to discuss the Iowa football. One week ago it was Hawkeye happiness. This week it’s Hawkeye sadness as the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams made a quicker than expected exit from the NCAA Tournament. Kyle Huesmann joins the pod and we look back at Iowa’s stunning loss to Creighton on Sunday afternoon. We also discuss the men’s team dropping a tough first round game to Richmond. We look ahead for both teams next year as well. Then we discuss the Iowa wrestlers and the Hawkeye baseball team after their big win over Texas Tech.

With the Iowa men’s basketball team winning the Big Ten Tournament and the Hawkeyes landing a five seed in the NCAA Tournament, we needed to talk about it. Kyle Huesmann joins the show on Monday night to talk about the title run for the Iowa men’s hoops team. We also discuss the Iowa women’s hoops team enters the NCAA Tournament as a two seed and we talk a little Hawkye baseball.

The Iowa basketball team keeps winning so that means another podcast from Indianapolis. Tom Kakert and Matt Randazzo look back at an amazing win for the Hawkeyes over the Hoosiers that included a banked in three pointer by Jordan Bohannon. We look back at Iowa’s rally, the amazing play of Keegan Murray, and the big shots by Jordan Bohannon. Then we look ahead to the title game on Sunday against Purdue and talk about Iowa’s chances to be a five seed in the NCAA Tournament.

We are still in Indianapolis for another day as Iowa defeated Rutgers in the Big Ten Tournament. We look back at Iowa the win and how after a slow start the Hawkeyes rolled thanks to strong play from Keegan Murray, Jordan Bohannon, and Tony Perkins. We then dive into the match-up on Saturday afternoon on CBS against Indiana. It will be almost like a home game for the Hooisers. What are the keys for the game and we give our predictions.
