Osmcast! Anime, Video Games, Interviews, And More!

In our first true post-AWA podcast Basil and Lee weigh in on the 1980’s anime classic, Kimagure Orange Road (KOR)! OSMnotes: Fun Fact #1: Basil’s first ever anime soundtrack on CD was bought during AWA 5. It was a KOR soundtrack and costed him around $30 for a second-hand copy. Later on he ended up buying another several soundtracks from another dealer but it only costed him like $12 a disc. He was amazed at his good fortune and wondered why the Kimagure Orange Road one costed him so much. Basil soon discovered out after the con that all the cheap ones were in fact bootlegs and his KOR one was actually legit. D’oh! Fan Fact #2: The director for the TV series of KOR, Osamu Kobayashi, also directed another romance drama show called Paradise Kiss as well as the rockin’ show BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad. Even more recently however he guest-directed the fourth episode of Gurren Lagann. It’s only the first day back from the Anime Weekend Atlanta 14 and we’ve already got our podcast up and running about it! Listen to us talk about standing in line for things and panels we attended! We aren’t dead yet! In this triumphant return to the OSMcast Basil, Eric, and newcomer Lee tackle Tetsuro Takeuchi and Guitar Wolf’s wild and crazy “Jet rock ‘n’ roll”/zombie horror/comedy/cult classic/movie thing, Wild Zero! And succeed with marginal success! WARNING: Guitar Wolf’s music can be _really loud. _ OSMnotes We actually recorded this a week or two ago, so the Wold of OSM news is kinda old, but it’s all still vitally important, at least as far you should go buy Bangai-O Spirits RIGHT NOW. We’re rollin’ into the month of August with Christopher Nolan’s latest take on the Batman, The Dark Knight. And more! And you should go buy some Freakazoid RIGHT NOW. Really this is the best week for super heroes and super villains ever.

Mushishi, by Yuki Urushibara is the topic of tonight’s OSMcast_!_ And it’s definitely awesome. But don’t take our word for it! … Well, actually _do _take our word for it, but listen to us talk abut why first! OSMnotes Really you should go buy a copy of Mushishi in one form or another right now. Though you’ll probably have to special order it. But that’s okay because this manga and anime _is _pretty special. In that good way, not that short bus special or anything. So go git it. Like, now. Go!

Okay so for the past two weeks we’ve skipped out on the World of OSM… And it kind of built to a great big pile of stuff that needed to be caught up to. So here it is! OSMnotes So we talked about this stuff (more or less): Chrono Trigger DS! Slayers Revolution! Rock Band 2 DCvsMK fatality correction FF13 on Xbox 360!! OMG SQEENIX YOU COMMIT SUDOKU!!!11! Xbox Live + Netflix = Win! (However it was later clarified that everyone has to have a Netflix account to watch the movies. Still awesome though!) Mii Avatars! And other Xbox 360 stuff. Microsoft made a pretty good press conference. However… Nobody is interested in Animal Crossing: City Folk. And by that I mean the person we know as Nobody. Wii Sports Resort is pretty cool we guess. Wii Music makes my soul sad. So much. My heart: broken. So sad. Sony’s conference was pretty meh for us as well. But uh… 256!!! I guess. That game was called MAG (Massive Action Game). But we really don’t care. Really Penny Arcade got it right. Song Summoner for iPod Anime Expo!

And we’re back! This week DJ Inubito and Basil talk about Nerdapalooza 2008 and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. OSMnotes So it sounds like Nerdapalooza 2008 was pretty bad ass! And you do end up feeling pretty bad for Old Snake sometimes, when they make fun of him for being old and his Psych meter goes down in the saddest noise possible.

So how about that “On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness” stuff eh guys and gals? Pretty good stuff! You should totally buy it. Or at least try the demo. You could also go buy Commando 3 on the XBLA while you’re at it so you can try the new SFII: HD Remix beta going on. Or Space Invaders Extreme! I _still _cannot beat Level 4, but one day… ONE DAY!!! I will _triumph! _

In this episode we decided that box anime is cool. And by “box anime” we mean, “Kekkaishi.” Also, ice cream. OSMnotes Okay so admittedly I _just _beat MGS4, so at the moment I’m busy going “OMG MGS4 MGS4!!!! ” therefore _actual _show notes aren’t exactly on my mind. Though I am sad to find out the Wal-Mart sale is apparently already over so… oops. Hopefully those of you out there will have _already _realized this deal and have bought one! The rest of you should follow my lead and steal I mean _borrow _them from all your friends that just obtained those PS3s and play Metal Gear Solid 4 on them. I want to say that this new Metal Gear is good enough that you’ll want to buy a PS3 anyway, but I know that’s just the MGS fanboy in me and that overall the 360 is still the better gaming system. … Maybe. Kekkaishi is also an awesome show and an even more awesome manga. You should go buy all of the manga now. They have 14 volumes so far out so you have plenty to catch up on!
