The Fully Charged Show Podcast

Global energy markets are a very complex topic, and those in the industry spend years studying and analysing the data to understand how all the technologies, new and old, work together, impact each other and ultimately affect how much we pay, what we pay for, and who makes all the money. In this week’s podcast Robert is joined by Dr John Feddersen, CEO and founder of Aurora Energy Research, a subscription research business in the power sector, to get a behind the scenes look at how energy markets work. Supplying quantitative analysis through an agnostic approach, Aurora Energy Research helps policy makers, power companies, developers and Governments with their energy supply decisions. This podcast is a fascinating insight into the conversations we as consumers never get to hear.

In this week’s podcast Robert is joined by Darren Palmer, Vice-President of Global EV Programs at Ford, to learn more about how their development of the F150 Lightning, with its V2X capability, is at the forefront of their electrification strategy and the vehicle they believe will take EVs mainstream. Easing his way into the New Year, in this week’s podcast Robert speaks with Robert Safrata, a Vancouver based entrepreneur and former Canadian Olympic Alpine Team skier. With over 25 years experience in acquiring, building and growing companies (Canadian) Robert takes (Fully Charged) Robert through his approach to making sure sustainability is at the heart of all that he does. As inaugural member of Vancouver’s “Greenest City Action Team”, helping the city toward the goal of making Vancouver the greenest city in the world by 2020, Robert explains how by moving a business to a more sustainable future can yield many positive and unanticipated benefits not only for the company, but also for the employees and the wider local area.

For our last podcast of 2022 Robert wanted to catch up with ‘our man in China’ Elliot, to find out what he’s been up to, and get the lowdown on all the local news. With updates on BYD’s growing dominance, China’s grid capacity challenges, the tough times ahead for Tesla, and how by increasing their use of burning coal China are set to smash their emission targets. This week Robert speaks with Fastned co-founder Michiel Langezaal about their growing roll out of premium charging stations across Europe. With the aim to provide electric vehicle drivers with “the most welcoming charging experience”, Michiel shares his insights and perspective on this fast growing and constantly developing essential piece of the electrification of transportation puzzle. Fastned is a Dutch company that owns and operates a network of over 200 EV charging stations in the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Switzerland. Fastned was co-founded back in 2012 by Michiel Langezaal and Bart Lubbers. The first British location was in Sunderland, Fastned now has stations in Oxford, Newcastle, London, Glasgow and more.

This week Robert is joined by his old mate Roger Atkins, and as you can imagine in their own very distinct style they discuss a wide range of news topics and interesting stories from around the world of electrification. Helen Czerski is a British physicist and oceanographer and is a presenter on the Fully Charged Show. She has presented documentaries on a wide range of incredible subjects for both FC and the BBC. She is passionate about conveying the beauty and ingenuity of the physical world around us, and the perspective on the world that science provides.

Electrify America is installing more rapid chargers across the United States than you can poke a stick at. They currently have over 800 charging stations with around 3,500 individual chargers from 150 kW up to 350 kW. They are currently installing 4 new charging stations or hubs every week. This is a seriously rapid roll out. Electrify America have developed ways to reduce strain on local grids with their installation of multiple rapid chargers. Robert Barrosa is the Senior Director of Sales, Business Development & Marketing for Electrify America, and in this week’s episode of the Fully Charged Show Podcast, he explains how this is being achieved and a little bit about the history of the funding that has made much of this expansion possible. In late 2016, the U.S. Justice Department fined VW $30 billion after the company was caught rigging two of its diesel engines to pass U.S. emissions tests.
