  • Don’t Punt to Gio Ep. 20: UNC’s Friday in-state non-conference kerfluffle

    13/09/2019 Duración: 40min

Don’t Punt to Gio is back to preview the ultra-weird Friday night game between the North Carolina Tar Heels and Wake Forest Demon Deacons!  As with last week, host Chad Floyd is joined by Jake Lawrence, as the guys go through the Carolina/Wake game and the Week 3 slate.  In more detail:  When can we get rid of divisions, so we don’t have to play in-state rivals in non-conference games? Why did college football cede Thursday nights to the NFL? Wake’s offense: pretty good. How can the Heels slow down Jamie Newman and the Demon Deacons’ tempo? LALALALA NOT TALKING SPECIAL TEAMSWake’s defense: pretty bad. Does Carolina open it up and look for the big plays early, or pound the rock and control tempo? They could likely be successful doing either. If you like what we do, please go ahead and subscribe on your podcast app of choice. Also, go to Apple Podcasts and leave us a 5-star review, and let Chad read it on-air.  Til next time, Go Heels!  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • Don’t Punt to Gio Ep. 18: Miami at UNC, and Week 2 preview

    04/09/2019 Duración: 36min

Week two. Home opener. Conference opener. Alcohol sales in Kenan Stadium opener.  Yeah, this was a job for Jake Lawrence (@therealestRJL), who joined Chad Floyd (@Chad_Floyd) to break down the North Carolina/Miami matchup coming up on Saturday night, and even graciously stuck around to run through the week two slate!  Discussed:  Can Carolina run the ball consistently against Miami like they did South Carolina? Big plays: Miami may be susceptible to them, Carolina cannot afford to give them up. An unsettling amount of optimism.Said optimism due to the hellscape that is Miami’s offensive line, and the hope that the Heels can force a couple of Jarren Williams turnovers because of it. A really bad slate of (mostly Big Ten) noon football games.Clemson/A&M and LSU/Texas: perhaps some football that it will suck to miss because...UNC/Miami is running unopposed at 8pm. (Yes, LSU/Texas kicks at 7:30.)Subscribe to this podcast!  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • Don't Punt to Gio Ep. 15: Chopping it up with Michael Felder

    26/08/2019 Duración: 43min

Why have we posted four episodes of Don’t Punt to Gio in the past week?  Because when Michael Felder (@InTheBleachers) of StadiumTV (@WatchStadium) is available for 45 minutes on a Friday afternoon right on the precipice of college football season, you make it happen.  Felder, for those uninitiated, is an absolute must-follow during college football season. He’s extremely insightful, interactive and blunt while live-tweeting whatever he’s watching. If you catch him outside college football season? Hilarity ensues. He was also a walk-on defensive back for Carolina from 2003-2007. We talked about that experience, the highs and lows, and, of course, our weekly drinking schedules as Carolina students.  From there, we jumped into Carolina’s schedule, where he dispelled some of our preconceived notions (is Georgia Tech going to be better than we thought?) and closed it out with some spicy takes for the 2019 football season. This was a fun interview, and I really hope you enjoy it. For more like this, jump on your p

That defense is nasty.Virginia: can they complete the ACC Coastal circle of suck, becoming the 7th team in 7 years to represent the division in the ACC Championship game?Prayers up for the tire fire to continue raging in Blacksburg.Pitt’s identity crisis.Year zero for Geoff Collins at Georgia Tech, henceforth known as #WaffleHouseUChad’s hot take on a MAJOR upset on Duke’s schedule.A little bit on the reason you’re reading this blurb, the North Carolina Tar Heels.  Learn more about your ad choices. • Don't Punt to Gio Ep. 13: Touring the ACC Atlantic

    23/08/2019 Duración: 34min

Momma we made it!  After a six-week whirlwind of previewing college football conferences around the country, host Chad Floyd (@Chad_Floyd) and willing co-pilot Jacob Cowden (@jacobcowden28) have made it back to Bojangles country.  Its time to talk ACC Atlantic. Despite there being no actual plan on how to go through the teams (Chad totally almost forgot Florida State, I’ll retweet you if you catch it), the guys brought some analysis on the ACC’s other division.  Louisville and Scott Satterfield: it can’t be as bad as last year, can it? Boston College: what now, as their defense is no longer elite? Syracuse: the Dino Babers/Andre Cisco mancrush segmentWhat to make of Wake? Is year two really the time to have strong opinions on Willie Taggart? Can you turn around the worst offensive line of this century (stats back this up) in one year?State.Clemson: agree or disagree that this is the best assemblage of offensive talent since the 2004-05 USC team? (The hosts share the same opinion on the matter.)We really hope

Will he be better than Coby? Are people being needlessly down on him, or is that just the nature of freshmen point guards?KJ Smith being the newest recipient of a scholarship from Roy Williams To make sure you don’t miss further iterations of our show, and to show us you care, please consider subscribing to us on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or your podcast application machine of choice.
