Noisextra - The Noise Podcast.

Time for another album in the Pure series, and this one is thick and heavy. Deathpile’s “Ne Plus Ultra” sends us inside ourselves as we explore the heart and blood of this monumental CD. Longtime favorite of all three of the crew, Deathpile delivers the goods with this unique and stand out record. We talked to Jonathan Canady and relay what he had to say about this album as well as the beginnings of Deathpile.

We are celebrating Masonna’s birthday with a bonus episode on the man from whom we took our podcast name. We shred our ears with the “Astro Harshtronism” 8” on Anti Music. This week we pay tribute to one of the all time noise greats: Shohei Iwasaki aka Monde Bruits. We get stung all over with his debut cassette “Portuguese Man of War” on Vanilla Records. We explore his world of noise, his influences and his legacy. Join us as we get lost in the Japanese noise forest with a true legend.

This week we dive into the world of rhythmic noise with Orphx's 1996 album "Fragmentation" on Malignant Records. The crew is completely blown away by Christina and Rich's sound mastery, attention to detail and song title prowess. Dream imagery, cellular consciousness and brain biology are discuss through the lens of this ripper of a CD.

It’s our Halloween episode and we thought there was no one more appropriate to cover than Atrax Morgue. We listen to and discuss his “Paranoia” CD on Old Europa Cafe. We cover death, obsession and the darkness that Marco Corbelli infused into every moment of his recordings. In lieu of recent listening, we talk about some of our favorite Italian Giallo movies, a genre that was highly influential for Atrax Morgue. Slip on some black gloves and sharpen your knife’s blade.

The Connellys check in as their tour winds down. Topics include: the surreal vortex of Lakehead, California, two bartenders named Nancy, and what they've been listening to since Laramie.

This week's episode is something a little different, the first installment of TRASHWARE. The Connellys quizzed Crank Sturgeon and Greh Holger about making gear, getting into it, and we even came up with some fun future episode/video ideas!

The Connellys are on tour, but got themselves stuck in a snowstorm so recorded us a little bonus road listening discussion while holed up in a Super 8.

As October rolls on, we dive into the black leather night dungeon with Master/Slave Relationship’s “This Lubricious Love” on RRR from 1987, chosen by our guest Jim Haynes. Things get unhygienic as we discuss Debbie Jaffe’s intense personal vision, both lyrically and musically. In addition, we have a thick recent listening segment as well as mentions of “Blue Velvet,” infrasound performance, mix tapes and Nitro. Dig your heels in.

It’s October and time to stray a bit off the noise path onto a road filled with fog, fire and obscured ambient sounds with Aghast’s Hexerei im Zwielicht der Finsternis, a perfect soundtrack for autumn’s chill. We wander in the forest of tape hiss, off kilter timpani and dances of death. In addition, we discuss some recent horror movie viewing, as well as some favorite horror movie series. Turn out the lights, light a candle, and descend into the ancient ambiance of Aghast.

This week we travel to the black light cosmos with C.C.C.C.’s “Love and Noise” CD from 1996. The crew gets swept up in the solar winds with no concern of return. We discuss Mayuko Hino’s legacy and unique thoughts on noise and what makes C.C.C.C. stand out from the pack. Is noise “bad taste music for maniac people” as C.C.C.C.’s Hiroshi Hasegawa says? This week we celebrate the life and work of Akifumi Nakajima aka Aube. We dive headfirst into “Spindrift”, the first release on his own G.R.O.S.S label. We explore his unique sound and visual design, discuss his passion for the noise underground, and read a few words from some artists that worked directly with him. There will never be enough words to truly describe his sound and his impact, but we will always have his noise. Listen to Aube.

Class is in session for another noise history lesson. For our first episode on a film, we sat down with Crank Sturgeon to watch and discuss Voice Crack’s “Kick That Habit” film, directed by Peter Lietchi. Our talk jumps back and forth from the film to the early days of Crank’s involvement in noise. Topics include his introduction to, and working with, Ron Lessard, travels to the UK and playing with Smell & Quim, and the importance of '90s noise VHS.

We got excited and recorded another episode this week. It’s our first repeat artist as we discuss the seminal “King of Noise” album by Hijokaidan, which was recently reissued by Fantastique. Things get piercing and sharp as we celebrate this record. We also discuss the possibility of cooking a pizza on Greh’s speakers using the sounds Hijokaidan. We know who’s noise kingdom we’d want to be serfs in.

This week we sit down with talented author and VDSQ label-head Steve Lowenthal and travel the farthest back in time that we have thus far, in order to explore one of the tentacular roots of noise/experimental music with La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela’s Dream House 78'17" LP. Steve talks about his experiences at La Monte and Marian’s Dream House in NYC, Tara talks turtles and prime numbers, Greh talks wizard bikers and Mike headbangs to sine waves. Get out your magenta lights and go deep.

It’s our first foray into RRR’s Pure series as we head over to France for Zone Nord’s “Roferon A” album. We get down in the dirt with this obscure project, discuss early experiences calling RRRecords, and Tara espouses some noise show wisdom.

It's finally here, our first Skin Crime episode, after mentioning the project nearly every episode prior. Barbed wire, thumbtacks and fire all play a vital role in this week’s episode as we not only discuss Skin Crime’s “King of the Deathmatch” cassette, but also dig into the actual King of the Death Match and related wrestling matches. We dive onto a bed of nails, choke slam each other into thousands of thumbtacks and ascend the ladder in the middle of the ring to achieve the highest honor of becoming King of the Deathmatch. Never stay down, always kick out.

This week we take a little sidestep into one of the many tentacles of noise as we discuss industrial dark ambient project Inade and their “Burning Flesh” cassette from 1993. We embark a meditative trip through the gates of death, hear about Greh seeing Inade live and fall into the black water well that is this fantastic tape.

Bonus mini episode time. We wanted to let everyone in on what’s going on over on our Patreon site, so we discuss Chop Shop’s “Discrete Emissions” 7” on Banned Production. This episode is also timely as Chop Shop will be making a rare live appearance at the Haters 40th anniversary in Oakland this Saturday, August 17th. We travel to a hazy past through modified speakers and sounds that just aren’t right.

This week head back to Japan and back to the '90s to discuss one of the all time greats, MSBR. We listen to 1995’s “Metal Stricken Terror Action” on Banned Production and our minds are blown. We cover the late Koji Tano’s legacy and importance to the world of noise, read from an interview Greh did with Koji in 1999, and dissect the beauty of MSBR’s special packaging.
