  • Summer Rental

    02/06/2020 Duración: 55min

In this episode, Tracy, Val, and Jake discuss the 1980s comedy classic Summer Rental starring John Candy. In the same vein as the National Lampoons Vacation movies, this is a comedy about a family as it could only be done in the 80s. Who wouldn't want a nice, relaxing stay in a beach house in Citrus Cove, Florida? But you know everything is going to go wrong…John Candy is brilliant in this film, and just oozes charisma as he always does. The team discusses how this role may differ from some of his other work, like Uncle Buck. His character has just a little more heart. But as always, John Candy really is genuine as the dad here who just wants two help his family have an unforgettable summer vacation.Sure, the story may be full of holes, and the pacing is a little weird, but overall, the laughs are there and the film has heart in the end. This was a classic that Tracy and Val grew up watching, but it was new for Jake. It is definitely worth checking out. What did you think of Summer Rental? Do you have a sugges

It was one of our favorites at the time, but after 29 years, does it still hold up?Our panel breaks down why the timing works, why the jokes land, and the chemistry between the two main stars- who apparently did not enjoy working together on set. This is a summer vacation classic, and the laughs just keep coming as Bob becomes more and more sane while Leo Marvin is losing it. The team agrees, this film not only holds up, it is still very re-watchable even today. Just as funny as it was 29 years ago. This movie was a lot of fun to record and talk about it. If you haven’t seen it in a while, Memorial Day is the perfect time to revisit it. I mean, you can’t really go out and travel as easily as you normally

There is a lot to unpack as our trio tries to break down what this film is, what is about, and how it all worked so perfectly.Parasite is a film you really need to experience for yourself, and the less you know about it before hand, the better. Plus, apparently there’s new Tiger King episodes, so we mention that too.Overall, we all enjoyed this film, and it was a lot of fun to revisit this movie for some great escapism and fun (which we all need right now). • Just a Kid in a Fat Kid's Body

    02/03/2020 Duración: 37min

On this week’s episode Jake and Tracy are missing Val, but they have two special guests stepping in and trying to fill in for her. But those guests are Collin and Zach from Stolendroids Podcast, so they are poor substitutes for Val. But we’ll work with what we’ve got. The really good news is that we are discussing Jojo Rabbit, one of the best movies from 2019. And we all loved it. We discuss the amazing performances from the child actors in the film, the amazing story in the film, the writing, the dialogue, and the struggle Taika Waititi had with making this film and playing the role of Adolf Hitler, sort of.This film is more important today than ever. We talk about why it resonates with us so much, and why everyone should see it. Even if the whole premise seems strange- a young boy who’s imaginary friend is Hitler. But that’s not the message- and the message in this film is important. It will make you feel things. What did you think of Jojo Rabbit? Let us know by sending your feedback to podcast@mov

  • Time Stand Still

    24/02/2020 Duración: 53min

On this week’s episode, the team welcomes special guest, Larry Curtis, as we discuss our first documentary on the show: Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage. Larry, Tracy, and Jake are big Rush fans, so Val is taking the moderator’s seat. So, she’s asking all the questions. The documentary came out in 2010, and helped to push Rush more and more in to the mainstream limelight. The team is covering this film at a difficult time for Rush fans, as we recognize the recent sad passing of drummer/lyricist Neil Peart. The team spends time talking about how this sad event has affected them as well as Rush fans as a whole. He has left behind a catalog of work that is and will probably remain unrivaled.Tracy, Larry, and Jake loved this film, and loved watching this documentary (multiple times) in preparation for this episode, but how did Val feel about it? And can Tracy, Larry, and Jake look at this movie objectively, and take off their Rush fan glasses? Probably not.Have you seen Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage? What did

  • Going Down Under

    03/02/2020 Duración: 30min

In this week’s episode our team is taking a look at the 2008 period epic Australia starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman and every other Australian actor not named Hemsworth. The film was beautiful and told an intriguing story and in every way it looked like a for sure Oscar best picture nominee- but it didn’t get nominated. Why? Our team will discuss. The story in this film could have come straight out of the old west and would make a great western. There probably is a western out there that tells this story. But this film also highlights how beautiful this continent is, and introduces a broader audience to a history and culture of the island. Before this, most people were familiar with Australia through Crocodile Dundee or the Crocodile Hunter. This gave us more of a back story and a history. What did you think of this film? Let us know by sending your feedback to podcast@moviesthatmakeus.com We would also love to hear any suggestions you might have for the show. We want you to be a part of it. Next we
