North American Irish Coaches Show

Niall Logue originally from Derry  played for four years at Institute. Logue then moved to the United States in 2014 to play college soccer at Yavapai College in Arizona, where he played for two years before transferring to Ohio State. On 21 February 2018, Logue joined League of Ireland Premier Division side Derry City. He spent part of the 2018 season on loan to Finn Harps before joining them permanently ahead of their 2019 season. Niall is currently the captain of FC Tucson in the USL League One. 

Ryan is a native of Tipperary and has amassed a legendary professional career that spans 15 years and two continents. He made his professional debut with Sunderland in the English Premier League in the 2003 season. After an 11-year career in Europe, playing in the first division in Ireland, Scotland, and Belgium, Ryan moved to the United States and joined then NASL club Ottawa Fury for the 2014 season where they reached the finals. Prior to joining the club, Ryan played with USL Championship club FC Cincinnati, before they made their debut in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2019.

The North American Irish Coaches teamed up again with  the Modern Soccer Coach to bring you a live interview and Q&A with former Republic of Ireland and Wolves coach, Terry Connor. He discusses his coaching journey, perspectives on Irish football, and answer questions from the coaches in attendance. A fantastic insight to his journey and the loyalty of being an assistant coach at the highest level. 

Irish Football Association elite performance director, Jim Magilton, joined us in the Summer as we teamed up again with Modern Soccer Coach and Gary Curneen.  We discussed his youth experience at Liverpool, and his playing career in the Premier League, and his experiences on the management side of the game with Ipswich Town and Queens Park Rangers. A top fella and well worth a listen.

Last week Modern Soccer Coach and the North American Irish Coaches again teamed up for an interview with Republic of Ireland and Sunderland legend Niall Quinn. He came on to promote the exciting new League of Ireland Streaming Service that they have launched recently, and then discussed some areas in his own career including his time on trial at Fulham, playing for Jack Charlton, experiences with the young players at Sunderland, and how Pat Rice helped him score two of the biggest goals in his career. Absolutely loved this chat with Niall!

Caffrey joined the club in 2015. The Dublin, Ireland native holds experience in MLS and with the United States national team program. Caffrey spent 2014 at Chivas USA as the first assistant coach under Wilmer Cabrera. He served as an assistant coach and fitness coach with the Colorado Rapids on Oscar Pareja’s staff from 2012-13. Caffrey also was the first assistant coach under Cabrera with the United States under-17 national team from 2007-11 and oversaw the physical preparation and fitness training of the team. Caffrey played four seasons with the Long Island Rough Riders after a four-year college career at Adelphi University. Caffrey’s experience also includes roles as the director of coaching with the Rough Riders from 2003-05 and head coach and assistant athletic director with Suffolk County (New York) Community College from 2002-07. Stephen Murray is responsible for the recruitment of students in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Stephen graduated from Lambuth University in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Sports Management. Following university, Murray also played professionally in the USA with  the USL Division One side Wilmington Hammerheads. He also played with  Memphis Express and Nashville Metros, where he was on the All Southern  Conference Team of the Year. In the 2008-2009 season, Stephen played and  coached in the Croatian League with NK Junak Sinj.  Stephen was also  at Triton College based in  Illinois, where he was the assistant coach. Stephen helped lead the team  to the National Tournament. A super listen and it shows the journey that can be had with going abroad to study. 

Gary is joined by Martin O'Neill for a special live interview alongside  the North American Irish Coaches. McCabe was born in Ringsend, Co Dublin.  He grew up playing with his local side Cambridge Boys and Ashbourne  United in Meath among others, before deciding to travel to the United  States to pursue a scholarship offer and a chance to earn a degree at Young Harris College. He currently plays for Louisville City FC. 

Padraic is the Director of Team Operations for  OKC Energy. He speaks about his journey from college soccer to working in the USL Championship. We discuss scouting, managers worked with and the future of the game.  Enjoy Everyone!!!!
