The race for the All Blacks coaching job has now turned into a dawdle following the withdrawal from contention of Jamie Joseph and Dave Rennie. On Extra Time this week the RNZ Sports team along with columnist Hamish Bidwell and White Fern Suzie Bates discuss the issue of why so many coaches don't want the top job in New Zealand. But was New Zealand Rugby's search for a new coach just a ruse, with the successor already decided. Also are the Breakers broken?... Bates, a former Olympic basketball player, has her thoughts on the culture in the Australian NBL side.

Cricket is the focus of Extra Time this week with the RNZ Sports team joined by columnist Hamish Bidwell and former Black Caps wicketkeeper Peter McGlashan. The Twenty20 series against England is dissected and predictions are made about what bowling attack the Black Caps will take into the Test series. The issue of mental health of cricketers continues to hit the headlines with a third top Australian taking a break from the game, McGlashan says more has to be done.

The All Black centre Sonny Bill Williams has confirmed his return to rugby league and while he'll do well out of a reported $10 million deal the RNZ Sports panel ponders the benefits for the Toronto Wolfpack or the English Super League. Hamish Bidwell, Alice Soper, William Maloney and Barry Guy discuss SBW's time in union and what he still has to offer. There is also plenty of debate over who should be the next All Blacks coach with NZ Rugby casting their net wide to find a replacement for Steve Hansen.

All Blacks legend Christian Cullen joins Hamish Bidwell and the RNZ sports team to dissect the All Blacks Rugby World Cup semi-final loss to England. Cullen also has his view on what the new All Blacks coaching panel should look like and he picks his team to win the Webb Ellis Cup. And after success at the national over 50 cricket tournament Sports Editor Stephen Hewson discusses the extremely busy summer of cricket the Black Caps have ahead of them.

In Extra Time this week the RNZ panel of Clay Wilson, Hamish Bidwell and Barry Guy discuss the Rugby World Cup semi-finals and they get a coaches insight to the game from Hurricanes assistant coach Jason Holland who believes the Springboks are a bigger threat to the all Blacks than the English. The Black Ferns have lost to Ireland at a World Cup. Halfback Kendra Cocksedge was a member of that team in 2014 and she has her thoughts on what the men will need to do to avoid an early exit from this tournament. Cocksedge and Wellington Pride player Alice Soper join the RNZ sports crew of Hamish Bidwell, Joe Porter and Barry Guy to discuss the All Blacks-Ireland match and the other six teams still in contention for the Webb Ellis Cup.

In Extra Time this week the RNZ Sport panel of Hamish Bidwell, Barry Guy, Joe Porter and Bridget Tunnicliffe discusses the cancellation of Rugby World Cup matches. Did World Rugby make a mistake by granting Japan the hosting rights knowing that typhoons are common at this time of year? Also the Silver Ferns may be World Cup champions, but what chance of they got of finally winning another series against Australia?

The Pacific Island nations have so far been unable to set the Rugby World Cup on fire and grab an all important upset, but have they been getting a fair deal from World Rugby and also the match day officials? Fiji, Samoa and Tonga have all expressed their frustrations over the first two weeks of the tournament. RNZ's World Cup panel discusses the issues facing the tier two nations. The panel agrees on most parts of their top All Black starting fifteen, but it's not so clear on the reserves bench.
