Tonight I was joined in the studio by local performers Dave Stannard and Jodie Tarrant. As we found out, Dave has been a familiar face to many on the local scene for many years, while newcomer Jodie has become a regular at Phoenix FM's recent open mic nights. Since first joining us a month ago during his bookstore tour for his autobiographical debut Living with Lisa, in which he discusses his gender transition and spiritual awakening. Tonight I chatted to Essex author, speaker and performer Lee David Carter, who recently released his first book, Living With Lisa, about how he grew up female but transitioned in his 40s, alongside his spiritual journey. He spoke to us just ahead of his in-store appearance at Waterstones Brentwood on August 10th, one of several he is currently doing around the country. He is currently making a TV documentary about his life and, as we found out, has other on-screen appearances coming soon too! First up tonight I was joined by riot grrl-inspired foursome Black Liquorice, the organisers of Lacefest, an all-day band event happening at Chinnerys in Southend on August 9th. The music kicks off at 2pm and alongside a set from Black Liquorice themselves, the bill also features Political Hesitation, Leo C, The Teaheads, Bertie Scott and more! First up tonight I was joined by three of the crew from upcoming feature film Mother’s Child – Paul Gardner (scriptwriter & actor), Swaylee Loughnane (director & lead actor) and Tony Williams (PA & actor). The film is currently in production in & around Essex and East London, & boasts an impressive cast with a story worth sitting up and noticing. He’s just released his debut solo album, 40ft cable 10ft Stage, which was marked with a launch gig at Chinnery’s in his Southend hometown last Saturday – and as we found out, was a roaring success! We heard various tracks from the 20-track album tonight, which features a real mix of musical genres and, as Scully told us, features collaborations with a lot of talented performers.
