From 1995 comes this interview with Alice Parker, one of America's most beloved and admired choral composers and arrangers - and a close collaborator with conductor Robert Shaw for many years.   This interview was recorded during a visit that Parker paid to Carthage College as a guest artist.  Her stay included the world premiere of a work commissioned for Carthage's campus organist at the time, Dr. Susan Klozbach. 

From 2004-  Edward Conlon's "Blue Blood," his remarkable book about New York City police officers.  

Marc Cushman has written a new series of three books titled "These are the Voyages: Gene Rodenberry, Star Trek in the 1970's."  These books focus on the years after Star Trek: the Original Series was cancelled by NBC.   It was during the 1970's that the Star Trek phenomenon was truly born.  This interview focuses in particular on the groundbreaking Star Trek conventions as well as Star Trek's return to television in the form of an award-winning animated series.  

Valerie Tripp is one of the country's most successful and highly-regarded authors of fiction for young readers.   (She has written many of the books in the American Girl series.)   She has just begun a new series for National Geographic, and the first book is titled "Izzy Newton and the S.M.A.R.T. Squad: Absolute Hero."  

We talk with Jo Frost, well-known to millions as the Supernanny.   Among other things, we talk about some of the special challenges that parents are facing during this time of COVID-19.

Best-selling author Lorene Cary discusses her new memoir "Ladysitting:  My Year with Nana at the end of her century."  Cary talks about the experience of taking in her 99-year-old grandmother.  The book touches on many themes and issues, including aging,  family, caregiving, and race. 

How do we train people for the incredibly challenging work of law enforcement?  And how has that training changed in light of concerns over incidents of police brutality?  How are prospective police officers trained in matters such as use-of-force or how to de-escalate potentially dangerous situations. We speak today with Richard Stein, Director of Law Enforcement Training at Gateway Technical College, and Ray Clark, Police Chief for the Town of Delaven and a half-time instructor in Gateway's Law Enforcement Academy.

From 2008-  Atul Gawande, author of 'Better:  A Surgeon's Notes on Performance,"  which gathers his thoughts on what it means to be a better doctor.   

Here is a look back at a very different era in NFL history, the 1950's-  and one of the most glamorous teams of that era,  the Los Angeles Rams.  Jim Hock's father was an offensive lineman for the team.    Hock's book is titled "Father on the Line: a Memoir."  

Bruce Boise talks about his book "Cold Comfort:  One Man's Struggle to Stop the illegal marketing of powerful opioid drugs and save lives," in which he chronicles his career in the pharmaceutical industry and what prompted him to become a whistle-blower when he began to realize the scope and nature of the illegal activities of the company for which he was working.  

Tom Miller is the author of "How I Learned English:  55 Accomplished Latinos Recall Lessons in Language and Life." From 2011- A conversation with Mira Grant about her best-selling book "Deadline," the second book in her zombie series called "Newsflesh." As I state in the introduction,  this book was an immense (pleasant) surprise to me.  It's not the kind of book I would typically read- but I gave it a chance and loved it.

From 2009 comes this interview with Phoebe Damrosch, author of "Service Included:  Four-Star Secrets of an Eavesdropping Waitress."  Damrosch became the first captain at New York City's prestigious 4-star restaurant Per Se.   

We speak with famed British photojournalist Stuart Roy Clarke about his new book "The Game," which is a celebration of the game of soccer as it is played, followed, and loved in Great Britain.    (Clarke's co-author is John Williams.)
