  • The Impact and Implementation of the Release of the Final Title IX Rule

    Today on the SA Voices from the Field Podcast we are bringing you up to date information about the changes coming to TITLE IX. On May 14, NASPA provided a free rapid response webinar with experts in the field on TITLE IX.  This discussion shared a panel of experts, representing a diverse range of perspectives from those whose roles will be most directly impacted by the final rule.  In addition, NASPA will offer a new virtual, thirty-four hour personalized Title IX certificate, beginning in late June, in partnership with Peter Lake. The Title IX certificate program is a first-of-its-kind training which includes separate tracks for Title IX Coordinators, Title IX Investigators, and Student Conduct staff. The training will cover the new regulations from the Department of Education, intersections between Title IX, Clery, and VAWA, as well as the relationship between student conduct administrators and Title IX coordinators.     Today’s episode of SA Voices From the Field continues our COVID-19 and Crisis Conversation series. Today we talk with two faculty guests that will speak about the disproportionate impact that the pandemic has had on communities of color. We talk with Dr. Charles H. F. Davis III who is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Education at the University of Southern California. He is also the former Chief Strategy Officer and Director of Research at the USC Race and Equity Center. Also, we talk with Dr. Russell Jeung. Dr. Jeung is Chair and Professor of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University. Dr. Jeung is a scholar of race and religion and his most recent book is: Family Sacrifices: The World Views and Ethics of Chinese Americans. Dr. Davis said that his essential Higher Education read is The Alchemy of Race.     Below is a message from NASPA President Kevin Kruger.    We write to share news that the place-based NASPA Annual Conference, The Placement Exchange, and the NASPA Connected Conference in Austin, Texas and San Jose, California have been cancelled due to the Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) and its designation as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization. We have spent the past few days working through the process outlined by the City of Austin for events greater than 2,500, which has both taken longer and been more complicated than the news has reported. The health and safety of our members has always been our first priority, however we have also been working to assess the long-term impact of canceling the conference on our ability to continue serving and supporting our community. We appreciate your patience as we thoroughly reviewed all of our contractual obligations to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Association.
