  • Rick and Susan Sammon Discuss iPhone VS DSLR

    23/05/2019 Duración: 01h07min

On this episode of F8 | The Photographer's Perspective (new name!), Chris is joined by landscape photographers Rick and Susan Sammon, who discuss their new book, "The Oregon Coast Photo Road Trip," all about points of interest and how to shoot the area. Rick will be a featured instructor at Out of Oregon this October. The Sammons discuss the benefits of shooting on an iPhone instead of a DSLR, and the importance of bringing backup equipment (even if it means doubling the weight of your bag). They also share tips on shooting seascape photography (Safety first!) and the secret to shooting long exposure photos on an iPhone. Rick also teases us about his next photography book, which will notably be void of any photos inside. Be sure to visit Rick's website, his Costa Rica class on Kelby One, and Susan's Instagram.  Here are the NEOS Overshoes that Rick recommends.

  • Jackie Kramer Discusses How to Shoot Textures

    16/05/2019 Duración: 01h05min

Floral photographer Jackie Kramer, who'll be at our Out of Longwood conference this August, joins Chris to discuss the secrets behind her creativity, including how she shoots her own textures.  Jackie also shares her favorite gardens up and down the eastern seaboard, her favorite equipment (she's all Canon), and the one tool every photographer can't leave home without. She also discusses photographers who inspire her.  On the late Nancy Rotenberg: “I looked at who she was and what she did and how she touched so many people. It made me feel something inside that I never really felt before. She was a genuine person, she touched people in a very authentic way.”   On Clyde Butcher: "He underscores the importance of getting to know your home. Shooting where you live and getting to know your home is so much more important than any eternal quest to shoot that iconic photo somewhere else, because what you can bring to the equation is where you live.” You can find Jackie at Luv Blooms and Jackie Kramer

He also shares post-processing tips, how he shoots in black and white, his favorite places in America to photograph, and composition techniques that can make you as great of a photographer as Ansel Adams. On following his passion: “I started to make better big landscape photos in Yosemite when I stopped worrying about [being someone else].” On preparation: “It always helps to know an area well before you photograph it.” On post-processing: “It really helps if you have a clear idea before you start with where you
