On this Two Old Bloggers, the Minnesota Vikings won their opener against that team from Wisconsin [TTFW], the Green Bay Packers last Sunday in the first of their NFC North matchups. They did not beat them, they demolished their will to play, at least Aaron Rodger’s will as he was constantly pressured by only the base defensive line and edge rushers. His receivers having the dropsies didn’t help either. New Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell had a lot to do with the whole game and set the attitude necessary to facilitate such a convincing win. Darren gets to break it down and how it will apply to the NFL week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. On this Two Old Bloggers, the Minnesota Vikings are on the verge of opening the season at home in US Bank Stadium with their most hated rivals to the east, the Green Bay Packers. Vikings vs Packers - Are you ready? Darren and Dave hope to get you that way. New head coach Kevin O’Connell has played a gamble throughout the preseason keeping the majority of Vikings starters off the field. This will be the first time we see all of the starters play. Will they be rusty or very refreshed? About half the league took this approach this season and it will be interesting to compare the results at the end of the season, but for now, we’ll hope for the results the Los Angeles Rams had last season. This will be the first time we see KOC and the rest of his staff in full “win the game” mode too. The Minnesota Vikings have made their way to cutting, trading, and signing practice squad guys to complete their 53-man roster plus practice squad ahead of week 1 of the 2022 season. There were some definite surprises, some expected moves, and some moves that seem a little unconventional. Are they? Ross Blacklock was traded for to replace the cut Armor Watts. That seemed a little weird. Was it for money or because they thought he would be better? If that is the case, why do the Vikings show Jonathan Bullard as the starter on the opposite side of Dalvin Tomlinson? Who’s better, Blacklock or Bullard? With all these moves made by Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, he sure has put his stamped his name on this squad more than we thought could be possible. With the majority of last year’s Rick Spielman draft now cut and gone, this was definitely an alpha by the new general manager. How do you like Kwesi now? Bold moves for sure. It came with some IR placements, surprises, and trades. The Vikings were not awarded anyone from the waiver wire today, and now are signing players to their practice squad. Then BAM! The Vikings trade for Jalen Reagor and waive Ihmir Smith-Marsette. Wow! The guys will be talking with you all about it. The Minnesota Vikings are in Colorado preparing to play the Denver Broncos. The starters will again not play again in this preseason game as reported by the StarTribune, “Ten to 12 snaps here and there,” O’Connell said, “I don’t know how much it does for some of the veteran players who have played a lot of snaps in this league when we’re talking about a bigger picture.” So it will be down to everyone else playing for their Vikings careers, and maybe even bubble players on other teams. One of those players is Kellen Mond. He was selected by Rick Spielman in the third round of the draft last year. From that round, players like Chazz Surratt and Wyatt Davis appear to be in danger of losing their chances of playing for the Vikings. There are many who advocate keeping Mond as QB3. This is to see what one more year of development and cheap rookie cost can do. Hopefully, he can become a viable quarterback for this team, at least as a backup. The Minnesota Vikings played the San Francisco 49ers last night and even though it mainly the 2’s and 3’s squaring up, it wasn’t what Vikings fans had hoped for in the only home game of the preseason. It was a real snoozer of a game that saw backward steps in the progress of Kellen Mond as a QB2. Sean Mannion was pure Mannion and now the biggest question of the game is if the Vikings bring in some other quarterback to backup Kirk Cousins?  There were some good performances though from the backups with T.Y. McGill earning the top spot on the night. He was dominate being disruptive at nose tackle, racking up more pressures, sacks, and run stops. He makes talk of D-line depth seem solved.
