The story begins in the early 2000s, the American Phonté member of the group Little Brother, and the Dutch producer Nicolay meet on the forum of the Okayplayer website. Sharing the same interest in music and without having really met physically, they decided to join forces in 2002 and form a duo called "The Foreign Exchange" (which would later become the name of their label).
