As someone who has lived with a significant disability for 50+ years, has worked in a high level state position, is a wife, the biological mother of two and the grandparent of three, she is well aware of the challenges faced by the majority of people living life, in addition to the struggles and barriers, which exist for individuals with disabilities. Laurie is 57 years old and was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA 2) and has lived with a significant physical disability since the age of two using a wheelchair since the age of five.
