Landry won the race by receiving more than 52% of the electorate – a threshold that eliminated the need for a runoff election and flipped a seat that was held by Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards since 2016.   Jeff Landry defeated many challengers including Dr. Shawn Wilson who is African American and who received 70% of the African American vote.
