In 2022, the sheriff of Lewis County, New York, changed his Facebook profile to a picture of him holding up an award he won from the Oath Keepers. The post was after Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes was arrested and charged for his role in the January 6 insurrection. This got North Country Public Radio reporters Emily Russell and Zach Hirsch interested in learning more about the far-right movement upstate.
