John Ferrier does well for himself and his adopted daughter within the Mormon community, but he refuses to join the religion or to take wives. His daughter falls in love with a non-Mormon who met her when he was passing through. Finally, Brigham Young appears to Ferrier and orders him to give his daughter away to one of the council members.
