This week the Aborigine Australian Rules star Adam Goodes, decided against walking away from the game he loves, having endured weeks of racial abuse at the hands of some opposing fans. It’s not the first time that the sport has been at the forefront of the countries debate on integration. In 1993, whilst playing for St Kilda, Nicky Winmar responded to similar racial abuse by raising his shirt and pointing to his skin. The photograph is an iconic image in Australian sporting history.
