We explore the concept of false memory, particularly in the context of sexual abuse allegations, and discuss how, less than half a century ago, sexual abuse and incest were taboo topics, with experts believing they were rare. This perception was shattered in the late 1980s when research indicated that sexual abuse was widespread, with one in three women being victimized, often by family members. This revelation led many women to come forward, sometimes with newly recalled memories of abuse. However, over time, some of these memories have been questioned as possibly being false.
