The Red Sox were held to 6 Hits and lost a 2-1 decision to the Tampa Bay Rays in the series opener Friday night at Fenway Park. Sox are 80-80 with 2 more games to go in the Regular Season. The Sox are .500 for the 24th time this season. -----On the Board 1st- Rays and Red Sox were scoreless until the Rays broke through in the Top of the 7th. Jonathan Aranda reached with a 1-out walk and scored on an RBI Double off the bat of Josh Lowe. On the play, Johnny DeLuca was thrown out trying to score from 1st. DeLuca was out 8-6-2 for the 2nd out of the Inning. That would be all for Pivetta, who left to a nice ovation in what may have been his final appearance with the Red Sox. Zach Penrod entered with a runner on base. Penrod walked and hit the 1st 2 hitters that he faced and then walked Christopher Morel to force in a run.
