While many people like the idea of self-directed learning in principle, the way it looks on a day to day basis can wind up feeling a little scary. Self-directed learners tend to not follow the linear learning plans that their schooled peers do, and that can be unsettling. They can wind up going really deep in some areas while seemingly neglecting others.
