Sinopsis
It was the time of larger than life, steroidmungous action stars, armed to the teeth with all kinds of weaponry. One little film tried to buck the trend. Remo Williams needed no weapons, except the special effects make up to turn Cabaret’s Joel Gray into an old Korean man. It flopped on release, but the film has fond memories for its fans. 30 years on, it’s time to revisit this forgotten film. But did they really have to “yellow up” a white actor? Was playing a character with a different skin colour acceptable in the 80s? And is it really racist if it was acceptable at the time? Our Man in Japan joins us in the BFGC studio as we centre our collective chi to find out if this kung-fu master is deadly with fists and feet or disarming and harmless. Like what we’re doing?
