*Buffering* is what we do when we're resisting, avoiding, or generally trying to escape from the current moment. Maybe we don't like how we're feeling, or maybe the emotion seems so big and intense and scary that we don't know how to process it. Whatever the case, we buffer against it so that we don't have to feel it. Common buffers: food, alcohol, tv, social media, work... Less obvious, but all too real buffer: anxiety.
