But, concepts like “The Golden Rule” and “do no harm” have been asserted in philosophical and religious traditions for thousands of years - none more intense than in Jainism, an ancient religion that pre-dates and gave rise to Buddhism. Jainism is concerned with the welfare of all living beings and organisms, not just humans.
