It seems Mrs. Tucker was hanging pictures, put nails in her mouth, and accidentally swallowed one. Doc does his best to save her but sadly arrived too late. Shell Tucker blames Doc for his wife's death and swears his revenge. When a horse with a broken leg enters the picture, however, circumstances change quickly. Paul Frees steps in to replace Howard McNear as Doc in this episode only. This script was repeated later in the series with Howard McNear back in the role as Doc Adams.
