Each of us needs a vision for our lives that will carry us into the next life. Without such a vision we will certainly perish. But a vision of this significance does not come cheaply. You must want it. And you must understand where it comes from. Just as it was for Paul, to receive a compelling life-vision we must first have a profound vision of the Lord Himself. Listen to Paul’s response to Jesus when the Lord appeared to Him on the road to Damascus: “So he, trembling and astonished, said, ‘Lord, what do You want me to do?’” (Acts 9:6). This is an example of the right kind of response to a revelation of Jesus Christ—trembling, astonished, submissive. Now read Jesus’ response to Paul.
