This guide is made every year well before the back to school season to give a guide to the college student or anyone who wants to be cost effective in bringing computer power with them on the go whether it be to the dorm, to the classroom, to the convention hall, or a hotel room.This guide will refer to 3 categories of portable computing. Ultra portables, mid range, and mobile workstation. Ultra portables are small computers with a lot of potential to do most of your computing needs. They focus on battery life over performance. A good smartphone can take this place if you have a good enough smartphone.Mid range are laptops in the 13 to 15 inch screen range that has good performance and decent battery life.Mobile workstations are big laptops of usually at least 14 inches and have desktop level of computing hidden inside. The workstation is usually looked at for high end computing or gaming. Performance is king, battery life is secondary.
