Don't make an audience a promise, if you know you can't keep it.  Tommy and Josh get sassy about Microsoft and their next-gen console before diving feet first into hell.  In this particular fiction, Chief it's Cold Outside, we accidentally stumble our way into a Halo-themed Christmas fic about a human Cortana and her attempts to get the Master Chief to top her.  She succeeds.
