But then I get distracted half way through forming the question, and by the time I get un-distracted I've realised that I don't need any advice and I totally know what to do with this series. Comet in Moominland is a perfect starting point; just like Night on the Galactic Railroad, it's ostensibly a kid's book, but one which is steeped in the most deliciously existential of dreads.
