With the shocking news of Chinese researcher He Jiankui using CRISPR to edit human genes, a debate rose on the internet (in China and around the world) and paranoia around the gene-editing technology ensued. This episode of Loud Murmurs centers around a 1997 sci-fi film, "Gattaca" -- a movie that depicts a dystopian society driven by eugenics, where potential children are conceived through genetic selection to have their parents' best hereditary traits. Along with our guests SanTu and Kong Kong, we use this film as a starting point to discuss the current controversy in China.
