Beginning in her youth as a volunteer and continuing through her career, she has made it a priority to aid individuals in finding and meeting their emotional, educational, or professional goals.  From counseling children and families to facilitating civilian and military members in social and educational leadership—as Director for Fleet and Family Services at GTMO—she has been blessed with assisting others in the journey of becoming their best selves. Lara has completed coursework for two doctorates with a focus on research, evaluation, and clinical psychology and a master's in general psychology from Walden University. Through her career, she has found solace and joy in her civil service—the main driver in sharing her experience of Caged. Lara has since retired from civil service and private sector roles and her new goal is to continue to help
