It's generally accepted that humans can live for three days without water but they can go weeks without food. Not something that any of us ever want to test, but a good corollary to how we fuel our endurance events. The importance of hydration cannot be overstated. Most endurance athletes approach race day as a calorie problem, not a fluid problem.
