Titled “Early Days: The Emergence of Writing as a Distinct Focus”, this podcast surveys the origins of the Writing and Literacies Special Interest Group from the perspective of one of its early members, Dr. George Newell. Dr. Newell is professor of Adolescent, Post-Secondary and Community Literacies in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the Ohio State University, and together we discuss the emergence of research and focus on writing as a unique subject of inquiry at the AERA, as well as future directions for writing research.
