Jesus had a profound way of using simple stories to lead people to profound spiritual insights and action steps. And some of the most intellectual disciples of Jesus – i.e., C.S. Lewis – have used “children’s stories” – i.e., The Chronicles of Narnia – to encourage people of all ages to demonstrate childlike faith. Here’s the thing: Many spiritual sages who understand the human heart would argue that there is no such thing as a “children’s story.” All stories are for people of every age and, as we mature, we find deeper truths within those plots that lead us on to advanced, grown-up applications. So for four weeks we will hear/rehear the zany stories of the late Dr. Seuss’ – whose birthday is March 2. This is gonna be really creative and a lot of fun! The Doc is just another example of how all stories point to a Grand Story that is good news (or, “gospel”) for humankind.

(Jane Doe) – Make it to the playoffs. (Every Cleveland Brown) – Not choke in the playoffs. (LeBron James) Many are hoping to turn over a new leaf in their spiritual journeys too, asking, “What does God want for me in 2012? What is His vision for my future?” “Immersed” is a series about the key teachings and metaphors that Jesus, Saint Peter, and Saint Paul used in the First Century to describe Christian faith and baptism. Water baptism is a picture of a new shot at life – a second chance at the many or few things we have been gettin’ wrong. These teachings are filled with images of new beginnings, clean consciences, and total immersion into the amazing grace of a kind God.

Is this really what Christmas is about? Spending lots of money and getting depressed? Is it time for a revolution? Let’s conspire against the empty Christmases we’ve experienced in the past and engage in one that is meaningful and makes a difference in the lives of our friends and families. This Christmas we will learn what it means to worship fully by spending less, giving more, and loving all.

Whether it’s President Obama, Marshall Mathers, or Tina Fey, we are always looking (consciously or subconsciously) for examples to lead us through this crazy life. Jesus of Nazareth has been the most popular role model in history. In spite of that, the average person would admit, “I really don’t know many details about him.” Unfortunately many Christians – people claiming/trying to follow Jesus – would say the same. This series will teach us about the life and teachings of Jesus (from the Gospel of Mark in the Bible) so that, if we choose, we can imitate his actions and obey his teachings.
