We had such a good time with Sammy Carlson and Yu Sasaki, we kept it going.  This is an extention of PART 1.   In this one we tell some good stories about getting into car accidents on the same day,  keeping wild animals as house pets and going to crazy Japanese festivals.  Sammy shares why he skis on King Pins and tells us about the huge amount of footage that we haven't seen yet. Sammy Carlson and Yu Sasaki have been skiing and filming together in their adopted home town of Revelstoke for the last couple years.  We all met up at Sammy's log cabin in the woods to record a mega episode.   This is part 1.   Yu tells us about originally moving to Whistler when he graduated highschool and working in a sushi restaurant because that was one of the only jobs for a non- english speaking Japanese skier to find.   He decided that Canada was where he wanted to stay and got married,  had kids and started a successful food truck business all while competiing on the Freeride World Tour.    Sammy tells us about his terrific new film, "YUP", how the soundtrack came together, how the two started to ski with each other and lots, lots more. The Sister Summit is a gathering of all female mountain guides, filmers, photographers, editors, skiers and snowboarders to foster female empowerment in the snow sports industry.   Co-founded by our guests Hedvig Wessel and Fanny Avril,  alongside Leanne Pelosi and Lexi Dupont, the inaugural event is the start of something which has been needed for a long time.   Inspired by, "Formation", an event within the mountain bike industry, the Sister Summit is a place for women in the snow sports to collaborate and learn.   With elements of business and health as the focus, with a huge dose riding included, Sister Summit it far more of an event.  It's a movement.   Hedvig and Fanny explain exactly how it came together, the months of planning needed to achieve the successful implementation of this amazing new force in adventure sports. Alex "Army" Armstrong returns to the LPP!  Very few people in this industry work harder than Army and she is now seeing the fruits of her labour.   She tells us about her iF3 nominated, 3 part, web series, "Skier Rich".  She produced it for only $3000 and shares how that lead to her shooting for this year's Blank Collective Film "Feel Real".   Alex also had the opportunity to develop a brand new ski for RMU and  is able to tie that into her allyship for indiginous rights.  We round out the episode talking about contradictory sources of motivation, her Good Gear charity auction, Frankenboots and whether it's cool to walk a cat on a leash.   Enjoy! Grete Eliassen Returns! The last time we spoke Covid had just reared its ugly head and we connected over Zoom. Tom Peiffer spent three years competing on the Freeride World Tour.  Now, the Whistler resident is shifting his skiing to more of adventure based approach.   He talks about his transition away from competition and his current attempts to juggle a ski career, a real job and finding time to work towards a university degree.  We also learn about his first big mountaineering mission to climb and ski a peak in Nepal. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a failed attempt but none the less it was a learning experience that will be invaluable to him moving forward. With their film, A Part of US, Jacob and Sofia Wester seem to have made the first, true-love story told within a ski film. The two, long term partners wanted to create a more relatable film that showcases real vulnerability and the true emotion that we all experience in the mountains. The two talk about how their long relationship has evolved to them working together on these projects and the importance of communication and understating. Shannon Corsi is the Executive Producer and Director of this season's most talked about ski film, Nexus.   Nexus is a narritive driven project featuring four specific stories of women in the ski industry.   The overwhelming majority of cinematographers, photographers and editors working on Nexus were female. Who better to tell women’s stories than female creatives?  Shannon tells us how she, as a relative outsider to the ski industry, managed to raise a tonne of money, curate a handful of intriguing stories and create one of the most relatable, the most needed and one of the best films of the year.    The answer is  "Unhinged Confidence". Amy Jane David visits the LPP Studios!  Aside from being an excellent skier, she's also a very well-rounded human being who has a long range vision for her life and career.   The native of Wyoming, who now makes her home in Idaho, tells us about her achivements in snow science, as a teenager, while growing up in a family of ranchers.  She shares her ideas for future film projects, her ski goals for the season as well as plans to continue with guiding courses that accompany her work with snow safety organizations in the Sawtooths. Maggie Voisin is a 3 Time US Olympian and 7x Medalist at the X-Games and she's only 23 years old!   She talks about growing up quickly in the ski industry and tells the personal story about injuring herself during training at her first olympics in Russia.  She opens up about the death of her brother by suicude and how her career, family and the way she approaches the world has changed. Henrik Windstedt's career has spanned the entire golden age of Freeskiing and he's been involved in every corner of it. Laura Obermeyer is a skier, photographer, filmmaker and artist.  You may recognize her last name as she is the granddaughter of Klaus Obermeyer who founded the revolutionary outerwear brand that bears their name. She's very involved in the company but keeps that part of her life in the background.
