Stepping Back to Assess the Dream
29/05/2019 Duración: 15minThere will be times when you must take a step back and consider where you are going next. Things often happen incredibly fast for us so it is natural to take time to re-evaluate your direction and adjust the path you want to follow. Everyone has to do it not just performers but it seems to be much more noticeable when a performer does it. You must accept that people will not understand, its part of the life we have given ourselves. Taking a break means you are literally taking time away from all things performing, you are escaping for a while. When you are “stepping back,” as I call it, you are still actively pursuing your career, you are just going into more of a planning stage. Think of it as a business - when a Business reaches its goal the board of directors meet and evaluate the next steps and the new direction they will be going. We have to do the same. It may not always come when you reach a goal, you may be seeing things happen that you did not expect and need time to really thinking, you may have an

Your Performance is Your Masterpiece
17/05/2019 Duración: 13min“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” -Edgar Degas Art is defined as the expression of human creative skill and imagination, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. The is absolutely the definition of a performance as well. When you perform you have your vision but ultimately it is more about what you convey to the audience, what you make them see and feel. The best performances are those that make the audience feel something or experience something. It could be excitement, happiness, sadness, pain, adventurous, any emotion or feeling really. It's about how you make the connection to them and communicate your vision. How you appear, your facial expressions, your movements, your interactions with them all plays a roll into their experience and how they feel during your time on stage. This can be developed through having that clear vision of the details of the performance and rehearsing the performance including those details. Consider the audience whe

Things Will Not Always Happen as Expected
12/05/2019 Duración: 14minYou can Hope, for something, plan for something, work for something, but you can never expect something. Three things have been on my mind lately. First - Sometimes things in life may seem to just keep stacking against you. It happens to everyone. The real power is in how you get yourself back on track. Second - You cannot expect things to happen in any certain way. There will be times when something happens so quick you don’t feel ready for it, and there will be times you feel like nothing will ever happen. It will, for sure, just keep going. Finally, the biggest lesson I ever learned while performing was to always have something stage-ready. There will come a time when you get a last minute booking. Instead of stressing about throwing something together, you will be prepared and ready to go. For even more tips and tools to turn your audience in to fans, Subscribe to the RockStar Lounge. When Someone Tears You Down
30/04/2019 Duración: 14minIt’s inevitable, no matter how much you think people support you, someone will eventually surprise you and knock the wind out of you. That happened to me recently about this podcast. I have been going strong for just about a year and a half and all of a sudden I am publicly told that since I have not performed since last year that I should stop coaching others. I found it unbelievable that someone could say that about someone's passion but it happened. I was angry, hurt, and left questioning if they were right. That was the wrong reaction. You remember when your mom use to tell you to “turn the other cheek?” Well, that would be the best reaction. These people will come at you, sometimes with terribly hurtful comments but we have to treat it like water off a duck's back. These people and their comments only have power if you let them have power. You can decide to just keep moving forward doing what you love,‘turning the other cheek’ and just walk away from them. Do You Trust Yourself on Stage?
26/04/2019 Duración: 12minYou rehearsed. You know your stuff. Do you trust yourself to pull it off? You want real success on stage? There is a process with 3 easy steps to get you there. First, You have to believe you deserve to be successful. Performers can get trapped in the feeling of never being good enough but you have to snap out of it. There is no power greater than belief in yourself. Second step is to work for it. NOw that you recognize and believe you deserve success, now you have to continue to work for it. Oh No, success does not come easy like wishing on a star, there is work. Last you have to trust yourself to make it happen. Sometimes you just have to take a step and trust that you got you. You rehearsed, you prepared, you worked, you believe, now you just have to trust. It’s like the magic in Halloweentown - “All you have to do is want it and then let yourself have it.” For even more tips and tools to turn your audience in to fans, Subscribe to the RockStar Lounge. Why Do You Perform?
23/04/2019 Duración: 12minThe simple answer is “I Love to Perform.” But it has to be deeper than that. Every performer has a purpose when they step on stage, or at least you should. What is yours? It can be a simple answer such as “Inspire people through music.” or it can be your ministry, it can be your way of connecting with people. There is no wrong answer but there needs to be a purpose in what you do. Even if it is vain, honestly. I performed because I like the feeling of getting to be the most extreme and authentic version of myself. I got to go against what people considered to be normal and I got applauded for it. It's a selfish reason, but I felt I had a purpose. I now know my purpose in performing was to learn and make mistakes so that I can share with other performers. If you don’t have a purpose, how do you find one? Chances are you already have a purpose of being out there you just have to acknowledge it. You can try meditating, you can try journalling, just consider what the reason is for going on stage. If your answer i

Tomorrow
15/04/2019 Duración: 10minWe give a lot of value to tomorrow. Are you really ready for what could happen tomorrow? There could be a cataclysmic global event OR you could be handed an opportunity to live out your dreams. The question is, which one are you more ready for? Too often we spend our time preparing for the worst when in fact if we knew what was coming tomorrow we would live differently today. If someone told us the world was ending we would go into panic, survival mode. But if someone said tomorrow you are being handed the opportunity of a lifetime, would you be ready for it? More importantly what would you do differently today to prepare for that moment? We should be treating every day, every performance as if tomorrow the phone will ring, the stars will align and we will have made it. It's Time to Get Uncomfortble on Stage
12/04/2019 Duración: 11minGrowth happens when we step out of our comfort zone. When was the last time you took a risk on stage? Tried something new? Different? If you struggle to recall then it may be a sign that it’s time to take a chance. When you stick only to what you know then you never learn anything and if you are never learning then as a performer you are doomed. Time to get real, we have to adapt, change and grow and the best way to do it is by making the choice. Make the choice to step out of that little box you built yourself and try something new, different, or odd. Be the unique individual you were born to be and let that show on stage. Stop reliving the same show over and over again. You owe it to yourself and to your audience to experiment and challenge yourself with new things. Get UNcomfortable on that stage. Stop Worrying About THAT Performance
09/04/2019 Duración: 13minAt some point, we have to move on from our last performance. Good or bad, we cannot dwell on our last performance forever. After a great show we often celebrate and sometimes we celebrate for days or weeks. On the flip side, when we have a disappointing performance we dwell and sulk for an unhealthy amount of time. No matter how the performance turns out we have to have a plan to move forward. There is always a another show to get working on, even if its not booked yet. If we gloat or sulk for way too long we put our future performances in jeopardy in terms of timing and quality. There has to be a point when you decide to move to the next performance. It may be a tough call but you know what they say, you can’t see where you are going if you are looking behind you. Take to the time to reflect, celebrate, learn, sulk - but get back to work. A career is not made with a single performance. For even more tips and tools to turn your audience in to fans, Subscribe to the RockStar Lounge. Check out The Being On Stag

Reflecting on Your Performance
06/04/2019 Duración: 13minEvery performance is an experience to learn from. When we are on stage we are on a sort of high, it happens fast and often times we can’t recall every moment. So how do we use our shows as a tool to improve? Not something we are usually thinking immediately after a great show. Of course, when we are feeling like we had a mediocre or terrible show we immediately know what we would do differently. But, we often forget to think about learning from our great ones. Truth be told, we need to think about each performance in the same way if we are really going to grow. There are simple questions you can think about and really get down to where you could be better. Give yourself credit for the good moments, look for opportunities in the not-so-good moments, and look for something special about yourself. It will help to record your performances so you can go back and watch. The method in this episode will help you to improve and improvement is always necessary to move forward and grow. Show Up For Your Audience
31/03/2019 Duración: 11minGet on Stage with the intention of entertaining Sometimes it can be hard to do but that is a huge part of calling yourself a performer. We have to show up for our audience and give them the performance that they showed up to see. Every performer needs a way to focus their mind before getting on stage, allowing them to separate whatever is happening in life from what they are doing on stage. Your job as a performer is to entertain and you cannot do that if you allow yourself to be distracted while on stage. There are many ways to focus however one of the best is to use meaningful music or lyrics to bring out your stage persona. Other ways include meditation, stretching/yoga, Warming up, praying, and even having a drink. Whatever you choose, remember that when you are on stage it should feel as if the world has frozen and nothing else matters except that moment. Episode 100: Performers Need Change and Growth
26/03/2019 Duración: 12minYou cannot grow without first changing. Growth is necessary are a performer. You cannot expect your career to grow unless you grow first. So how do you do it? Sometimes it will be small changes and sometimes it will be a large change, but change is good for you. That is the first thing we all must understand. Although it can be scary, change is good. You must make changes in yourself and in your talent in order to grow. You can learn new things, on and off the stage. You can take a class to refine the skills you have, you can adapt your show or your style with the times and trends. There are changes coming to the Being On Stage community and Podcast as well. All meant to help us grow. Change is going to happen anyways, use it to grow. For even more tips and tools to turn your audience in to fans, Subscribe to the RockStar Lounge. Episode 99: So No One Came to Your Performance Huh?
23/03/2019 Duración: 15minSometimes you have to look at where you have been in order to appreciate where you are. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the drama of the business. More people, More viewers, more followers, more ticket sales, more, more, more. That’s the nature of any type of show business. The interesting piece of this is we often put this pressure on ourselves. We have such a desire for more that when we don’t get more we are disappointed, sometimes to the point of giving up. Stop ignoring your previous success. So what you only got 1 extra follower, so what you didn’t sell out a show. Think back to when you had to beg people to come see a free show. Seriously take a hard look at your journey. Don’t you have so much to be grateful for? The pressure and expectations we place on ourselves can be detrimental to our career and our passion. Stay the course, keep going. Treasure EVERY audience member, every follower, every subscriber, every moment that you get to be on that stage. For even more tips and tools to turn your audi

Episode 98: How to Capture your Audience from Stage
21/03/2019 Duración: 16minSometimes performers ask themselves why an audience was rude or inattentive or did not cheer for them. The truth is, most times the performer should look at the actions on stage and how they were executed in order to answer these questions. Whenever I see someone perform, I can’t help it, the observationalist in me comes out. I watch the performers movements, timing, and audience interaction. I also watch the audience. I watch how they react to what the performer does. When the performer approaches, how they approach, what the audience feels in the moment. There are certain behaviors that get the Audience’s attention while performing on stage. When you are on stage you can use rhythm, movement, and facial expression to interact with your audience. That’s what captures them and brings them into your show, aka Stage Presence. In this episode I break down a method to engage your audience and keep their attention throughout the show. When done properly you will be able to approach, interact, and capture your audi

Episode 97: Let it Be - My Week with The Beatles
16/03/2019 Duración: 13minThere is a powerful message for performers in this Beatles hit song. Sometimes you truly must Let it Be. Last week I immersed myself in The Beatles. I only listened to their music and I read up on the history and some stories about them. They were, and still remain, one of the greatest performance groups of all time. But like most wonderful and incredible experiences, they had to come to an end. There was a lot of tension and Paul could tell the Band was struggling. One night he had a dream of his mother comforting him with the words Let it Be. The next morning he wrote the hit. After the album was complete, the Band did in fact break up. But the legacy they left lives on over 50 years later. Why? I truly believe it was this song. As performers, we create amazing things to share with our audience. There will come a time when it is time to move on. Whether it be to something new, taking a break, or even walking away, you must always be proud of what you have created. When you know in your heart it is time to m
