KSL NewsRadio's Teacher Feature recognizes outstanding teachers in the Utah community. Each teacher is presented each week by a different KSL NewsRadio personality who talks about how they make a difference in the lives of the children they teach. Each winning teacher is honored with a plaque from Zions Bank, an overnight stay at Anniversary Inn, a gift certificate for dinner at the beautiful Roof Restaurant at Temple Square and a pair of season tickets from Hale Centre Theater!All winners are also invited to attend an end-of-year banquet at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in their honor. In addition, one lucky teacher will win the grand prize 2-year lease on a new car courtesy of Burt Brothers Tire and Service.A panel of judges from Zions Bank, the State Office of Education, and KSL NewsRadio judge the hundreds of nominating letters. Shaynie Wayman - Oquirrah Elementary

Glen Carpenter - Stansbury High

He gave up an accounting career to teach, and many students feel like they have a safe haven in Mr. Carpenter's classroom. Stephen Warner - Settlement Canyon Elementary

Keriann Moore - Doxey Elementary

She was nominated because she regularly helps a student test his diabetes on a daily basis. She went out of her way to learn how to give insulin shots, and the shots and the needles scared her to death at first. And especially because the student is just a first grader. But she says that it's life and death, and she just loves the kids so she's happy to help. Lisa Garland- Northwest Middle School

When her husband became disabled, she took on the family's financial burden while giving as much energy as possible to her students. Her daughter nominated her for her positive attitude that is addictive. The students trust her and she is able to build relationships with her students. The anonymous former student claimed he was not a very good student and felt like he "needed to break him in". "Within five minutes of being in his class, I had disrupted, annoyed, and then finally threw (and hit him) with a wadded up piece of paper. I knew he was going to unleash the dogs on me, and he did." He goes on to say that the next day it surprised him because "He just wanted to get to know me, which was weird. We hit it off right away, and by the end of the conversation, he had offered me a job mowing lawns with his Lawn Care crew that he ran after school to make ends meet. I accepted." Andrew Lovell – West Side Elementary

His wife nominated him after an anniversary trip they planned to take to Uganda. Mr Lovell decided to make it meaningful to his students. While he was there, him and his students raised over $4,000 to help build a library. His wife says "He took pictures, used Facebook Live, and took videos so that he was able to show students the impact of their project from beginning to end." She goes on to say, "He lives and teaches by the following motto, 'People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care'. His students not only know that but they feel that."
