  • #CFAF 166 — Jeen-Yuhs; Our Reaction to the Kanye Documentary - Part One

    10/03/2022 Duración: 01h29min

Few Tang! It's obviously Kanye West season. It's been tough for us to hold of talking about Jeen-Yuhs. BUT we hadn't said a WORD to each other about the documentary before we cut the mics on. Like the doc, we decided to do our reaction in 3 parts. The first part is just us two giving our overall perspective; which is preeeety broad lol. Tune in to learn who our guests will be for the next two episodes. We hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF 165 — Why Are Hip Hop Songs Shrinking?

    25/02/2022 Duración: 59min

Few Tang!!! They robbing us y'all...Songs are getting shorter and shorter. We hardly ever get a 3rd verse from anyone anymore. We don't get good posse cuts like talking bout it. We, at Conversate For A Few, understand that a good pop song is 3 minutes in length; and that Hip Hop is pop music these days. But DAMN! Can we get a full thought on a song?!?! Anyway...We're discussing why Hip Hop songs are shrinking on this one. We hope y'all enjoy this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF 164 — Hip Hop at the Super Bowl; as American as apple pie

    18/02/2022 Duración: 01h02min

What's good Few Tang Clan?!? I ain't gonna "write" y'all to death lol...We ALL saw the Super Bowl. And like the rest of America (whether they wanted to or not), we ALL saw the halftime show. This year was more than a little different though. This year, and for the first year ever, #HipHop was center stage. What does it mean? How did it get there? Will we ever see it again? Those are just a few of the questions we asked each other. We hope y'all enjoy this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF 163 — The Legendary Lineage of Q-Tip

    18/02/2022 Duración: 01h08min

Few Tang Clan! This is long overdue. We're covering the legendary lineage of Kamal, The Abstract Poetic, Q-Tip. An unsung GOAT, Tip has influenced our greatest emcees, producers and style icons. And WE don't think it's spoken about enough. Today #CFAF does just that. We give Q-Tip his just due from our perspective. We hope y'all enjoy this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF 162 — How Bad Biz Ruins Quality Hip Hop

    08/02/2022 Duración: 01h31min

What's good Few Tang Clan!?! We ALL know Industry Rule Number 4080. And if you don't, you need to buy a watch. Word up lol. Nah. YouTube "Check The Rhyme". For those of you who know off top, we're talking about how bad business or bad contracts ruin the quality of music we receive from our favorite artists. Please don't think this is some artist 'woe is me' talk, cause anybody can get it at Conversate For A Few. We don't spare anyone. • #CFAF Special Episode — DMX Tribute; Long Live Dark Man X

    11/04/2021 Duración: 01h30min

We would've recorded this earlier Few Tang. But honestly, we couldn't have made it through an entire episode any sooner than now. This loss was too emotional to speak to right away. It had to be done though. We hope we did DMX justice. We spoke from the heart. Long Live X. • #CFAF 159 — What is an NFT?

    23/03/2021 Duración: 01h08min

What’s good Few Tang Clan!?!? How many of you have heard of Non Fungible Tokens or NFT’s? We didn’t think so. It’s our job to put you on to things that may impact our culture. THIS, in our humble opinions, will change the game; possibly in the favor of artists for a change. At least until the labels figure out how to turn art to commodity in that space too. Anyway…Here’s What is an NFT; and what does it mean for Hip Hop. We hope y’all enjoy listening to the conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF 158 — 10 Things We Miss Most in Hip Hop

    11/03/2021 Duración: 01h21min

Few Tang Clan! We don't think this one needs much explanation. We all get a little nostalgic from time to time. This is one of those times. Maybe some of the things you miss about Hip Hop made our list too. Maybe we're SUPER nerds and ain't nobody thinking bout what we miss lol. • #CFAF 157 — Hip Hop and the Rock Hall of Fame

    19/02/2021 Duración: 01h27min

Last week the list for 2021 Nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced. Among notable names were Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige. We heard a few differing opinions on the topic. Some instantly showed pride, others confusion. Some demanded Black Music have its own Hall of Fame. Other wondered whether We belong there. I think Allan and I made a strong, real-world argument as to why Black Musicians belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We take time to analyze the plight of Hip Hop as it relates to Rock music historically. You KNOW we had to play Devil's Advocate on who belongs in and who doesn't. S we also discuss which legends from the genre deserve a spot. THAT was fun lol.  As always, this is an important topic. We hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. Make room for the tag...#ConversateForAFew Please tell us what you think in the comments below. • #CFAF 156 — The History of Melodic Hip Hop

    04/02/2021 Duración: 55min

Many of us "vintage" or older listeners of Hip Hop show a true disdain for the melodic direction "emceeing" has gone in recent years. I'm not gonna say we LIKED it, but we have grown to appreciate what melodic emcees bring to the table. On this episode though, we try and undercover the history of melodic Hip Hop. We attempt to determine the Godfathers of the sub-genre. And we definitely try and NOT be hypocritical old heads. That part isn't so easy LOL. We hope y'all enjoy listening the conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF 155 — Ageism in Hip Hop

    28/01/2021 Duración: 01h12min

Few Tang Clan! What's good with y'all?!? Hopefully, y'all are still out there getting older; meaning you're consistently waking up on this side of the dirt. That's a good thing. It's the ONLY thing, to be honest. Hip Hop culture doesn't appear to think so. Getting older brings the proverbial pink slip in Hip Hop; the Ol Sandman Simms comes dancing towards you with that damn cane if you will. If that reference was over your head, or too old for you to catch, this episode is for you especially. Your youth is our opportunity (young and old alike) to quell ageism in Hip Hop. It may not mean much to you now. But once it catches up to you, it's too late. Treat this episode as if it's from the future. We're going back to tell people how to save Hip Hop from itself.  If you got the Sandman Simms reference right away, we have vital instructions for you as well. Those in our age group have more sway than we give ourselves credit. It's time we start throwing our weight around. We can't make our genre/culture perfec

  • #CFAF 154 — Who Is Desiree Perez?

    22/01/2021 Duración: 01h20min

What's good Few Tang Clan?!? The question of the week is "Who Is Desiree Parker?".  We got answers. But the more important question might be why does it even matter who she is? Would it matter who she is if this were any other genre of music? What does it say about Hip Hop if things like this matter?  Tons and tons of important questions came from this topic.  We hope you all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF 153 — 3rd Annual Conversate For A Few Awards

    16/01/2021 Duración: 01h47min

What's good Few Tang Clan!?!?  It's that time of year again! Let's give the outstanding artists of 2020 their flowers.  Damn the Grammys! We give our artists A Few...That's right. The name of our award is A Few. So lock in with us and see who wins A Few from #CFAF.  We hope you all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF152 — 10 Best Reinventions in Hip Hop

    07/01/2021 Duración: 01h32min

Who doesn't love a definitive list?!? On this episode we argue who's has the best reinvention in Hip Hop. But of course, to properly argue any point, you must set the parameters. So we established "The Articles of Reinvention" to create a baseline or rubric to follow. You know...Hip Hop nerd ish'. We PROMISE this will be the most eclectic Hip Hop list you ever seen. Ironically, we made the decision to talk reinventions a week before the announcement of MFDOOM's passing. Sadly, our timing was impeccable as DOOM formerly known as Zev Love X, easily had the most masterful reinvention Hip Hop as ever seen. Salute to MFDOOM for everything he contributed to the art, the genre, the culture. Rap in Peace King.    We hope you all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF151 — Does Hip Hop Need a Labor Union?

    31/12/2020 Duración: 01h18min

Industry Rule #4080: Record Company people are shadyyyyyyyyyyyy! Ain't nothing changed since Q-Tip's proclamation. Coal miners have unions. Steel workers have unions. Airline pilots have unions. Actors and actresses have unions. PODCASTERS even have unions! Why not artists, producers and musicians?  Heavy hitters such as Joe Budden, Lupe Fiasco and N.O.R.E. have broached the topic but we have found no evidence of movement toward bringing a Hip Hop Union to fruition. Spotify is under fire from unionization of podcasters. Seemingly, there hasn't been a peep from artist; definitely not an organized "peep". Why not? Now we DID undercover vital information that will benefit major label artists going forward. Our opinions are cool. But this info is the meat of this entire conversation. My mind is still blown by what Allan brought to the table on this one.  We dropped links to every article read from and mentioned in the show below.  https://www.sagaftra.org/does-sound-recordings-department-cover-inst

  • #CFAF150 — Che Noir; Our Favorite New Artist

    25/12/2020 Duración: 01h06min

What's good Few Tang Clan!?!? This is a special episode. Not only is it our 150th show, but it's also special because it's dedicated to our favorite new artist. I COULD'VE said our favorite new emcee. But Che Noir is more than an emcee! She's a producer as well. So emcee isn't a sufficient title for someone so talented. Che is an ARTIST. We get into Che's work, her team, and her region. We give our opinion on where Che might sit among other female emcees historically (which isn't even fair because she's WASHING most male emcees historically lol). Let's get this young lady her flowers. And do yourselves a favor. Go peep her catalog. You're welcome in advance. • #CFAF 149 — Young Gunz- The Imbalance of Crime and Hip Hop

    17/12/2020 Duración: 01h38min

Too many murders. Too many indictments. Too much self-snitching. Too much ego. Too many horrible decisions. Obviously NOT enough good advice. The genre we love is suffering from all of these things. The element of danger I admittedly enjoy in my Hip Hop has gone too far. Many of you accepted things had gone too far long before now. Please forgive my willful ignorance.  It seems to be the crime that used to pour from the streets into the music  now flows (along with blood sadly) from the music into the streets. The phrase "The most dangerous career on the planet" has been swirling around Hip Hop lately. What's happening and why? Who's fault is this? Who's responsibility is it to fix?  These are all topics we discuss on this episode. We came to a few very scary realizations too. Give a listen. Hopefully you'll have answers to a few of these questions so vital to the survival of the genre we all love so much. We also hope you enjoy listening to the conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. Mak

  • #CFAF148 — Supergroups That Never Happened

    10/12/2020 Duración: 01h21min

A Tribe Called Kast (ATCQ + OutKast) Murder Inc. (Jay-Z, DMX & Ja Rule) Child Rebel Soldier (Kanye, Pharrell & Lupe Fiasco)   Theses are just a few super groups that were on the verge of rocking the world but never actually happened. This is like the fantasy football of Hip Hop. Imagine the world we could have/would have lived in if works from these projects made to fruition. Sadly, we can't do much more than imagine. We CAN talk about it! And talk we did. Make room for the tag...#ConversateForAFew --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/conversateforafew/support

  • #CFAF147 — Misogyny in Hip Hop

    04/12/2020 Duración: 01h10min

What's good Few Tang Clan!   Since the recording of this episode, HBO Max has removed its free stream of "On the Record"; Drew Dixon's story of sexual abuse in the music industry. Drew's abusers are from Hip Hop. They are revered and heralded as legends, godfathers and greats. I said all that to say, we would've posted a link to the free stream if it still existed. It doesn't so we posted this one instead... https://play.hbomax.com/feature/urn:hbo:feature:GXrw_sA07SZGXWQEAAADb (You can subscribe or just do what we all do lol)    Watching this documentary prompted a conversation on the show that's long overdue. This conversation is long overdue for the culture at large. Who's job is it to call out the culture? Who's going to listen? Would we listen if women ask Hip Hop as a culture to change? Why haven't women asked Hip Hop as a culture to change? Have they and have we not listened?    There's more than an episode's worth of topic here. So I'm sure we'll revisit it soon. But for now, l
