  • #CFAF145 — The Myth of the Starving Artist; Revisited

    27/07/2020 Duración: 59min

What's good Few Tang Clan!?!?! Do you know what today is?!?! Sing it wit'me! It's our anniversary! It's been 3 years since we launched Conversate For A Few Hip Hop Podcast. And what better way to celebrate than to take it back to the beginning. 3 years ago, Allan gave me a call and 3 hours later, a show was born. If you've been an artist, unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you know "The Starving Artist" experience. Recent events [Russ' convo with Steve Stout coupled with the Migos label drama] have brought the idea back to us with perfect timing. We hope y'all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. Make room for the tag...#ConversateForAFew --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/conversateforafew/support

  • #CFAF144 — The Maturation of Hip Hop Artists; Then and Now

    24/07/2020 Duración: 54min

What's good Few Tang Clan!?! How has the maturation of Hip Hop artists changed over the eras? Is the influx of so much new music forcing us to "Old Head out", and start yelling get off my lawn? Or do we recognize the advantages technology affords both artists and fans nowadays? We hope y'all enjoy this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF143 — Hip Hop's Role in Social Justice

    16/06/2020 Duración: 01h05min

What's good Few Tang Clan!?! We're back y'all. Hopefully we gave y'all enough time to catch up to the barrage of episodes we hit you with lol. Our apologies for such a long break between episodes. Technical difficulties, creative impairments (Jana is to blame for that one specifically), and plain enjoying the break a little bit; those are the reasons for our absence. Please forgive us. Now that we have that out of the way...Let's get down to business. We need Hip Hop to step up. Not just the emcees, but the culture. On this episode we stick to the music though. We dig into Hip Hop's responsibility to social justice. Historically, where does Hip Hop stand on matters of injustice. Has Hip Hop ever served its people properly? CAN Hip Hop serve its people properly? If so, how?  Thank you for your patience. We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF142 — Our 10 Favorite Hip Hop Album Covers with Chris Charles

    08/05/2020 Duración: 01h55min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! We brought Chris Charles back in to run through our favorite Hip Hop album covers of all time. We kinda used a draft format. We let our guest go first and with each answer, we give details about what makes the artwork our favorite. And yes…we know the title says 10 albums. Ignore that. We definitely talked about more than 10 joints. There are some gems about the origin or inspiration for some classics covers in here too. Preciate you Chris for coming though and choppin it up with us again. We hope y'all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF141 — Can Canned Rat Rap Sell?

    07/05/2020 Duración: 47min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! Full disclosure: I, Jana, did not want to have this conversation. I won’t say my cohost Allan insisted lol. I will say Allan reminded me that we swore we wouldn’t talk about 6ix9ine (even after getting out of prison early), until he made a move. Well he’s moving. I KNEW this conversation was gonna piss me off lol. I didn’t know it would send us down an aluminum foil hat wearing, conspiracy theory induced, rabbit hole. And I definitely didn’t know we would end up waxing philosophical on the survival of Hip Hop culture. Ultimately, I’m happy Allan pushed for this episode. It was necessary. Just know I fought it LOL. We hope y'all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. Make room for the tag…#ConversateForAFew --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/conversateforafew/support

  • #CFAF140 — Chris Charles; Photography in Hip Hop

    06/05/2020 Duración: 01h34min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! Often, our first impression of an artist is based on photography. Whether an album cover, magazine spread, or nowadays, an Instagram pic, someone's photography is our introduction to an artist's look, attitude, lifestyle...I could go on but you get it. Today we're talking photography in Hip Hop. And there was no way we were having this discussion without our guest; the GOAT photographer, Chris Charles. Chris has shot Hip Hop legends, Jazz legends, as well as people you'll likely read about in future history books. We talked to Chris about everything #HipHopPhotography from each of our favorite album covers, to discussing some of the most legendary photographers in the game, to technology's impact on  photography in Hip Hop, and more. I learned so much during this talk. Y'all ready to nerd out on #HipHop? Good; cause that's what we do round here! Again, thank you so much Chris, for chopping it up with us. We hope y'all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoye

  • #CFAF139 — The Role of the Svengali in Hip Hop

    05/05/2020 Duración: 56min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! I think loose usage of the word “Svengali” has softened its meaning. I always took the word to mean a person that takes the diamond in the rough, works musical and music industry “magic” to create a star. Little did I know the word is a name, and that name belonged to a pretty sinister character from "Tribly", the 1894 novel/musical. This new information helped us distinguish between the svengalis we love and respect, from the ones we should be weary of; the Big Bad Wolves of the music industry if you will. It helped us be able to discern when the word is being used “properly” or better yet, to what effect. Yeah we know...#HipHopNerd ish lol. Welcome to The Role of the Svengali in Hip Hop. We hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. Make room for the tag…#ConversateForAFew --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/conversateforafew/support

  • #CFAF138 — Dallas Leake; Part 1: The Business Music Conversation

    30/04/2020 Duración: 01h20min

What’s good Few Tang Clan!?!? This conversation has been a long time coming; TOO long. The term special guest doesn’t do this Man justice. We talked to Dallas “DBoy General” Leake y’all. If you know like I know, when you get a chance to talk to Dallas, it’s in your best interest to talk BUSINESS. Everybody wanna be a Boss. Dallas is one of the few people I’ve met who is inherently a Boss. But not for the benefit of himself. He’s always used his blessing to help others achieve their dreams; that includes me, Jana. I don’t know if I’ve ever officially said thank you…Well from the bottom of my heart, Thank You DBoy. God bless ya Life. Love you Boy. We hope y’all enjoy this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. Make room for the tag…#ConversateForAFew --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/conversateforafew/support

  • #CFAF137 — 10 of the Most Unsung Figures in Hip Hop

    29/04/2020 Duración: 01h32min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! One of the reasons we do this show is we feel it’s our duty to leave behind intelligent conversations about Hip Hop. We also understand that educating our listeners comes with the territory. So today, we’re list 10 of the most unsung figures in Hip Hop. Hopefully, for some of you the names on our list will be new to you. For others, we hope to get a resounding “Hell yeah!” when you hear the name of someone you respect and see as unsung as well. So many people deserve to make this list we could do this show twice a week for a year and not scratch the surface. I’m happy we did this one. • #CFAF136 — We Just Cut the Mic On and Talked Hip Hop

    28/04/2020 Duración: 01h12min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! No description today; just a list of things we talked/argued about… Jay-Z v. Drake is a dumb idea. Is Jermaine Dupri’s disrespect for TrackMasters ridiculous? 12 songs Alchemist should play in a battle with anyone but Havoc. Hezekiah Walker v. John P Kee?!?!? Should @Verzuz battles be monetized? How will media change post-stay at home? Salute @hi_its_keysha, 1/4 of the #Straight2TapePodcast! Thanks for the Instagram Live convo the other day. That talk definitely fueled some of the content for this episode. We hope y'all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF135 — The Infamous 25 Year Anniversary

    26/04/2020 Duración: 01h10min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! It’s been 25 years y’all; 25 years since Mobb Deep blessed Hip Hop with The Infamous album. I don’t know a person from my era that wasn’t impacted by this album. To say this album is a classic is useless understatement. This album changed everything. Hip Hop got more gangster. The everyday hustler from the block gained a voice. Queens found its sound. And Hennessy got the marketing it always needed lol. There are so many topics to be covered here. And I’m sure we didn’t cover them all; no way we could’ve. There’s just too much. I can’t even do this description properly. I can’t find the word to express how much I love this album…I think y’all get it. Before we get into the episode we want to say rest in peace Prodigy. Mobb Deep forever. I hope y'all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF134 — Is Hip Hop the World's Greatest Hack?

    23/04/2020 Duración: 01h04min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! Here’s a hot take. We believe Hip Hop is the greatest hack in the history of the world (maybe that’s a little hyperbole but bear with me people). We don’t often think of the creators of Hip Hop, our artists or producers as hackers. But that’s exactly what they were and are. They started by hacking the tools and technology used to make music. From there, the genre hacked into the entire music industry! And it's still hacking; see trolling on social and the current Verzuz IG Live battles. We and by we, I mean Hip Hop…WE will always find a way. Hope y'all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF133 — Fred Howell; Leader of the Few Tang Clan

    21/04/2020 Duración: 01h22min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! All our guest are special okay. But this one is our champion. This guest holds the title “Leader of the Few Tang Clan”. This guest has been a loyal friend and follower of the show since day ONE. He’s likely heard more episodes of the show than WE have! So it’s only right we have Fred Howell aka BRUH, join the conversation! We talk about his love for Hip Hop, his favorite episodes and Hip Hop facts he’s learned from listening to the show. Fred had some really good questions too! He might’ve even sparked a few new episode ideas. Needless to say, we want to thank Fred for chopping it up with us. More importantly, we have to thank Bruh for his support. ANY TIME you wanna come on, you have a home at the Few. We hope y'all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF132 — Somebody Call and Check On Teddy Riley

    19/04/2020 Duración: 01h13min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! If RZA and DJ Premier deserved and episode, then the Teddy Riley/Babyface debacle DEFINITELY deserves some attention! I don’t even know where to start. And it doesn’t seem like Teddy knew where to start either lol. I’m not gonna list the issues with last night’s live battle here; not enough space. We do it all on the episode though. We cover everything from the sound, to the comments, to solutions so this doesn’t happen to another legend…Side note: Ted did this to himself. With that being said, somebody call and check on Teddy Riley. We hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF131 — The 10 Greatest Storytellers of All Time

    18/04/2020 Duración: 01h12min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! Once upon a time not long ago, has started  many great tales. All I hear is Slick Rick though. Today we name the 10 Greatest Storytellers of All Time. Some names were a shoo-in. Of course others took some debate. With only 10 slots, lots of legends didn’t make the cut. There are times in life when you are faced with your nerdom. This is one of those times lol. We hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF130 — Black Jeruz Talks Getting On, Going Rogue, and the Music Industry as a Whole

    16/04/2020 Duración: 02h45min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! This episode has been a long time coming. We’re talking to my favorite producer and Raleigh’s own, Black Jeruz. First of all, Ruz made his dream come true. He made it from making beats in the bedroom to producing for some of the biggest artist in Hip Hop history (Google it). He didn’t have to, but Black Jeruz shared his success with my team, Writer’s Block Music Group. He helped make our dreams come true too. And for that we are eternally grateful. Buckle in. This is an emotional, funny, transparent and honest conversation between long time friends, collaborators and peers. Sincerely, thank you again Black Jeruz, for coming through a chopping it up with us and more importantly, for being a stand up Man in a game that ain’t really built on being stand up. We hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. Make room for the tag…#ConversateForAFew --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/conversateforafew/support

  • #CFAF129 — Small World Talks Getting On, Record Deals and The Music Industry as a Whole

    15/04/2020 Duración: 01h46min

What's good Few Tang Clan!?!? Welcome to Part One of at least a Three Part series lol. We're talking about "gettin on", record deals and the music industry on a whole. Y'all know we don't do interviews. We do, however, have real conversations with people we admire and respect. Today, Henderson and Raleigh's own Small World talked to us about how much the mere thought of getting a deal meant early on. We learn how his music got from Raleigh to Wyclef Jean to Chaka Zulu at DTP. We go over Industry Rule #4080... Y'all really just need to listen to this one. They're gems everywhere. And remember; this is not an interview. Think about it like eavesdropping on friends telling Hip Hop stories. We hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. • #CFAF128 — The Recap; RZA VS DJ Premier

    12/04/2020 Duración: 01h42min

What’s good Few Tang Clan?!?! Alright y’all…We all saw RZA vs DJ Premier. Now it’s time to talk about it. Welcome to the Conversate For A Few Recap! We’re going round by round, song for song. First we give out praise, then it’s on to the critique. We compare what they actually played to our created playlists on Apple and Spotify. Most importantly though, we reviewed our votes from last night and reconciled all draws to reveal the true winner for us both. At the end we go through a few “if he had and woulda/shoulda’s” and there were quite a few. Needless to say, last night was epic, a dream come true, legendary and more. But there, I said it anyway. We hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. Make room for the tag…#ConversateForAFew --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/conversateforafew/support
