A member of the Few Tang Family hit me up and wanted to share a few thoughts on Mac Miller's legacy, and how Mac's passing has affected him. You might remember Jay Sealey from prior episodes. Last time we went back and did a Reverse Review for NaS' first Lost Tapes from 2002. So it's only right that we give his newest "Lost" effort some burn. This convo did NOT go as expected to say the least. A mix of expectations, fandom and difference of perspective made for somewhat of an argument. With NaS about to drop his The Lost Tapes 2 album, we figured there was no better time to do a reverse review on his first The Lost Tapes LP. Back in 2002, NaS hit us with an album of heaters; all supposedly left off other albums for whatever reason. And BOY are we happy these joints got left off those albums! Otherwise we wouldn't have this opus. I'm not gonna fawn over the music too much here. We did enough of the on the show. Oh! We also gave our predictions and expectations for The Lost Tapes 2. Hopefully y'all have already heard our episode on the Wu Tang doc "Of Mics and Men". That's good for two reasons. One, we don't have to worry about spoiler alerts anymore. And two;  you already know we were planning to extend that conversation with our resident Wu Tang Specialist, and long time friend of the show, David Varnadoe. He's gotta be the biggest Wu fan we know. Come to find out, he's an even bigger fan than we knew. Last year we gave y'all the Criteria of a Classic Album episode. This year, we're breaking down the Criteria for Legendary Status. We've all had the GOAT talk. We've all ranked our Top 5. We've all got our own personal list of legends. But what we don't have is a criteria to determine who's who, and what's what. We decided to skip the GOAT conversation and go straight to talk about legends. "Greatest" lends itself to hyperbole and suggests there can be only one. "Legend" denotes greatness but also leaves room for peers and even growth. As usual, this conversation didn't go as we thought it would. You'd think we'd stop trying to imagine how these things would go by now lol. Anyway... What's good Few Tang Clan? Even if you've been under a rock I'm sure everyone under that rock with you was talking about Jay-Z's performance at Webster Hall. HOV "blessed" us with another B-Sides show complete with guest appearances and slept-on but legendary bars. There was no doubt we were gonna discuss that. It IS a one on one conversation between myself [cohost, Jana Avery], and Self Made Nuski; one of the hardest working new artists I've come across recently. Allan wasn't able to make to the 2nd floor for this ep. So Nuski and I decided to chop it up about lyricism, what the game is missing, how long he's been rapping, goals for the future, and everything else you'd want to hear from a young artist! This episode has been a long time coming. We finally got Small World aka Don Taylor on the show to chop it up with us. This episode is also a little more disjointed than usual. World and I [Jana], got started without my cohost Allan. He was running a bit late. Allan made up for it though. He brought, friend of the show, J, Capri with him to add to the conversation. We talked about a TON of stuff. We paid more respect to Nipsey, gave background on how World and I met and talked a little more about Dreamville Fest. But things REALLY got interesting when we stumbled onto the topic of streaming revenue. It's my theory that the labels and the DSP's have Black artists in a helluvah trick bag. What may seem off the rails is really an in depth look at how the industry is hosing us. Let's call it Record Industry Rule #4081. Anyway, we enjoyed this conversation. I think you will too.
