08/04/2019 Duración: 18min*As always, you can review my episodes on YouTube, Anchor or wherever you get your podcasts. You can also find link to the channel on the podcast Instagram, Facebook and Twitter page @herpaderppodcast Thanks! Hey Herp A Derpers! Grow and laugh what you go through. The herpes stigma should not stop us from taking in the hilariousness of what a show or someone to encourage everyone to talk and mention herpes without offending anyone. We have a strong belief that before you can make jokes about something that is deeply stigmatized, you have to destigmatize herpes and know when it is ok to. Still be sensitive to those who aren’t as open but know that it is worth a laugh to when knowing that herpes is so common enough and there is no cure that of course it is the virus that ends the world. Future Man is a surprisingly hilarious take on what would happen if the cure for herpes caused the end of the world. I highly encourage you to watch it and

Gene Editing

You can also find link to the channel on the podcast Instagram, Facebook and Twitter page @herpaderppodcast Thanks! Hey Herp A Derpers! Recent articles explain the trials and errors scientists have been working on vaccines to prevent spreading herpes and help our immune systems ward off herpes infections, or medically help them fight the virus back once it has taken up shop in our bodies. In recent years, though, a few researchers have started to hope that we might be on the cusp of not just developing a “therapeutic vaccine” to protect against or manage the virus, but to actually cure those infected with it. This potentially radical breakthrough comes courtesy of gene editing. In the gloom-and-doom world of herpes treatment research, recent developments in gene editing cures are exceptionally promising and exciting. Gene editing is new to the world of science and exploration. It’s definitely something cool to loo

You can also find link to the channel on the podcast Instagram, Facebook and Twitter page @herpaderppodcast Thanks! Hey Herp A Derpers! Cheers to the start of March! March is one of my favorite transitional seasonal months because its filled with reasons to celebrate. Mardi Gras, Saint Patrick’s Day and springing forward into spring equinox. Time for festivities and setting our warmer weather intentions. One of my intentions in the midst of transition is to speak truth into existence. I’d like to share with you parts of my mantra that centers around the core themes and meaning of the truth: Keep promises to myself that will benefit my lifestyle and wellbeing. Say what you need to say, stop lying about how I really feel. Keep relationships that are valuable to you who are like-minded people. My mantra reveals something I want to work onl telling the truth to myself, others and not believing in the lies

Story of the Stigma
25/02/2019 Duración: 14min*As always, you can review my episodes on YouTube, Anchor or wherever you get your podcasts. You can also find link to the channel on the podcast Instagram, Facebook and Twitter page @herpaderppodcast Thanks! Hey Herp A Derpers! Social communication and stigma are powerfully connected. Communication is critical to a stigma’s existence to elimination. On this episode, I want to break down the meaning, creation and communication of stigma. Stigmas are profoundly negative stereotypes of a social group and its members that have diffused and normalized throughout a community. Herp A Derp’s mission is all about creating a stigma free community and yet outside forces make us all who have herpes being marked as a stigmatized group, it does more than that. Stigmas denote people as discredited, devalued, and disgraced. Stigmas around sexual health and risk communication and are considered the leading—yet misunderstood—barrier to health awareness. Deep breaths, deep thoughts, let's get into

Single Promises
28/01/2019 Duración: 09min*As always, you can review my episodes on YouTube, Anchor or wherever you get your podcasts. You can also find link to the channel on the podcast Instagram, Facebook and Twitter page @herpaderppodcast Thanks! Hey Herp A Derpers! After listening to the interview on Something Positive for Positive People, I reflected on how confident I was in confronting the “just a friend” in that moment but also building the courage to say what needed to be said. Beyond that, we have to stop stigmatizing ourselves. We hurt ourselves more when we don’t see our own worth. Herpes does not define us nor any bad things that have happened to us. We are capable of love and loving ourselves more. Yes, we all have flaws but you must love yourself in order to take care of your mind and well-being. It will release you to become a better version of yourself. The kind, loving, caring self you can then give to others. Positive self-talk is something I am personally working on. Part of the process is to let go and listen to my hea

Each day I am learning to love myself more by treating my body as a temple … of the mind, body and soul. I was reading through my personal blog a few days ago and I stumbled across one of them that really spoke to me. Negatives Become Positive Outcomes was written before I was diagnosed but still holds the same relevancy on going through the good, the bad, the brave and vulnerable parts of our personal journey’s.

Why?
15/01/2019 Duración: 19minHey Herp A Derpers! September also brings the end of summer feels. Today’s episode will be a great reflection of it! I attended pride parade on my work’s float. What a BLAST! I got to chat with a few peeps from the LGBTQ community to ask about their experiences. Can’t wait to share with you clips on my day, experiences, support and love all around. End of summer also marks discovering my diagnosis those years ago. Which also makes myself always ask the same question, why is there no cure? I understand its not fair to ask ourselves this question because we all have an understanding of why there isn’t a cure. We find ourselves concluding to the scientific conclusion/evaluation or the mental breakdown revolving a healing the emotional impact it took on us. The tool of knowing there is no cure for the racing side effects of emotion. It’s a herpes simplex virus - complex, uncomfortable and inflammatory. It’s very personal asking ourselves with herpes to ask this question of why t

Acceptance & Rejection
15/01/2019 Duración: 22minDiving into this week’s episode, it’s all about willpower. Willpower ties into having the strength from within each and every one of us. Willpower wants us to control or restrain from impulses. We rely on willpower to create change in our lives...but what if we're thinking about it all wrong. This past week, I listened to Willpower Doesn't Work by Benjamin Hardy (link in the bio) He explains that willpower is nothing more than a dangerous fad-one that is bound to lead to failure. That if we really want to change, we have to change our environment and alter our surroundings to support your goals. The world around us is fast-paced, confusing, and full of distractions. It's easy to lose focus on what you want to achieve, and your willpower won't last long if your environment is in conflict with your goals-eventually, the environment will win out. Now, you are probably thinking, how the hell does willpower connect with herpes? Simple! Like Rafiki in the Lion King, “The pa

Levels of Trust
15/01/2019 Duración: 15minToday's episode I will be talking about how I started opening up to friends I have herpes. Remember, you are not alone! It might feel scary to admit you have herpes, but talking about things can really ease your mind. You could lean on a close, non-judgmental friend that you trust to keep the conversation private. Family members can also be a source of comfort. Remember, herpes is really common, 1 in 6 people in the US have herpes. So it could be possible the person you’re talking to has herpes, too. You know you got a friend in me! The line of trust and fear is constant when you want to share something personal to someone. Yes I am sharing everyone my story but it took overcoming my fear of judgment to develop the courage to share at a bigger scale. Herp A Derp is about moments like these. To be able to understand not all hiccups in life have to be brought up by fear, but how to learn to lighten up on us and rise above. To expres
