Erik Hoffman was cool enough to have us to his home to discuss two landmark Ground Fault CDs in the field recording realm: Eric La Casa "The Stones of the Threshold" and Lionel Marchetti "Portrait D’Un Glacier." Erik relays some thoughts on the albums as well as working with each artist. We get into the importance of field recordings, where they can take you, and how they fit into the noise world.

We were thrilled to have Sam Rosenthal of Projekt Records, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, and more join us to head down atmospheric dark ambient branches. Sam has been operating since the early 80s and shares his thoughts on his own work, the artists that were part of the label, and how the music landscape has changed. The world lost a force of nature this week with the passing of Tom Smith. We are putting up a To Live and Shave in LA 7” episode that was recorded a few months ago, as well as a few words from Mike at the top. A proper tribute will follow in the future. Tom Smith forever.

A new year should only begin with a classic and that’s what we had searing through the speakers with MSBR "Destructive Locomotion (Dedicated to Chizuo Matsumoto)" on Pure. Chizuo Matsumoto was known to the world as Shoko Asahara, the leader of Aum Shinrikyo. This is a noise/true crime episode, in the vein our Murder Series episodes, as we dig into this incredible album as a background to the story of Aum Shinrikyo and Tokyo sarin subway attacks.

You knew it had to happen sometime. That time is now. Greh cornered Mike and asked him all sorts of stuff. Guitar? Check. Death Metal pedal? Check. Air organ? Check. Vocals? Check. And of course we talk his latest evolution of Failing Lights, working with Tara in Yellow Gas Flames, how Clay Rendering has influenced his solo work, and what it's like to operate the Los Angeles Serial Killer Synthesizer Club.

2021 is coming to a close, so it’s time to get into some of our favorite releases of the year. This go around we decided to have a general discussion of our faves rather than a "list." Here’s to a great year in noise as we look forward to 2022. Noise for life, noise 'til death.

KK Null’s "Saishiyu Butshitsu" LP from 1985 was recommended to us and we were all blown away. Brand new to us, this album hits all the right notes. In the moment physical brutality brings us to many different spaces in our brain. KK Null has a widely varied discography, but this LP sits firmly in the land of pure noise. A new favorite for Noisextra.

We were delighted to have Nigel Ayers of Nocturnal Emissions join us for a fascinating discussion. To celebrate the release of the new book "Electronic Resistance", Nigel took us back to the early days of industrial culture through the lens of Nocturnal Emissions. We get into working with MB and SPK, early mail art contacts, and how NE’s approach evolved throughout the years. Another mandatory history lesson is now in session.

Greh introduces the Connellys to an old obscure favorite of his with Netzach "Force and Fire." Loop based industrial from 1993, this tape hit all the right notes and got the entire crew revved up. Tara dove into researching the Crowley and Kabbalisitc references on the release and fill us in on her findings. This is an exciting early 90s industrial artifact prime for (re-)discovery.

John Wiese was in town so it was a perfect time to sit down and have a chat. We focus on Wiese’s love of the 7” format but of course we get into many aspects of John’s work, from his early days in California to Sissy Spacek’s upcoming tour with Blood Incantation. Boil sound down to its essence and give all your attention as the 7” spins.

Let waves of noise lead you to new lands with Mo*te "Taste Die Mad" on Spite from 1998. A great free flowing noise tape, Mo*te drops us into deep waters and we aren’t in any hurry to reach the surface. Let this be the soundtrack to the crumbling world.

Macronympha deliver one of the definitive American Noise albums with “Intensive Care” on Self Abuse from 1998. We received a letter from Joe Roemer and relay info on the album and Macronympha directly from the source. Primal sound steamrolls the status quo world. Blow out every little sound and submit to total noise.

Our annual Atrax Morgue episode has arrived, and this time we take a look at "Black Slaughter." A different type of release than covered on our previous Atrax episodes, here Marco Corbelli utilizes samples instead of vocals to convey the thoughts of a psychopathic mind. Included in "Black Slaughter" is an insert with notes on each track by Marco himself, and we read his words throughout. We are ready. Marco Corbelli forever.

All Hallows' Eve approaches and the Specter rises to let us into the shadow kingdom of Old Tower. We had an enchanting discussion on his process and philosophy, going from Old Tower’s beginnings to the new album “The Old King of Witches.” Build a twilight world and tear apart the fabric of reality. Let the cauldron spill over.

Mortiis is one of the most singular and transcendental electronic artists of the past 30 years and it was an absolute honor for us all to get a chance to speak with him. What transpired was a riveting discussion on the entire body of work left by Mortiis, Vond and beyond. We get into his relationship with Cold Meat Industry, working with Merzbow, his early electronic music influences, and so much more. Join us and we wander through castle ruins and crooked paths with Mortiis.

We will never get enough of Slaughter Productions, so we decided to take a look at 3 individual cassettes released by the label: Stratvm Terror "The Only True Septic Whore," Slogun "A Breed Apart," and Contagious Orgasm "Defective Merchandise." All 3 tapes represent different countries and styles that highlight the curation of Slaughter. We add a cassette compilation - "Slaughter Age 95" - on the Extra Noisextra for our patrons, showcasing Marco’s knack for putting together outstanding comps.

October has crept in, and we begin the month by speaking with Subklinik, aka Chad Davis. Subklinik has been wandering the landscapes of death industrial for over two decades and let us in to his world and process.
