It's already hard enough to stick to your convictions, but sticking to them when you have to support people you disagree with morally makes it even stickier. While Aaron is not available for this week's episode (yay fall illness) Paul takes over the microphone solo to talk about this tension of being able to support people to be able to legally protest/say things that he disagrees with at the same time sticking to his own convictions. This week we cover chapter 16 of Knowing God by J.I. Packer which is titled God's Goodness and Severity. This is something that a lot of people only look at one part of the equation (Goodness) but often time at their own peril forget to take into account severity. There are a lot of people that think of God as Packer states in the Santa Clause phase. This week we are going on assignment! We start out about talking about a new app on the app stores for both Android and iOS called Veebs. The claim of the application is that it allows you to select your values and then when you go shopping you scan what you are going to buy to determine if the company aligns with your values. In this episode of Use Your Words, we look at the "controversial" song that has sparked a heated debate surrounding racist references, lynching, and sundown towns in music. In fact the song is so "evil" that it was even pulled off of Country Music Television cable channel rotation due to the evils that they said were contained in the song - but is it really as bad as they say?Pundits were also quick to point out that the singer is anti a lot of socially popular things as well - claiming that he is an "evil" person - but how much of that is true and real - and how much of it is just projection because they don't like the politics of the singer? Also - is it really a bad thing for people to be good and defend their neighbors? What about if the person that is your neighbor is someone that you disagree with? This week's episode of Use Your Words Podcast is all about Messy in Heaven, a song by 21-year-old Venby which is part of the resurgence of drum and bass in Britain and Europe. It charted highly in the UK (3,1) and relatively high in the US (34,40) and is meant to be an anti-drug anthem. Although the song was inspired by a dream of Jesus looking intoxicated, the author says that it was not meant to be controversial or insulting song.
