In this episode I talk with the Bayou Bowhunter, Harmon Carson. Harmon is a Louisiana native and is a straight up killer. No deer or hogs (lots and lots of hogs) are safe from this guy! Well, this one can be controversial. This episode is just me talking about my ideas on what fair chase is and isn't. And even if it isn't, does it matter? Maybe yes, maybe not. The subject of ethics covers lots of topics and even more emotions. There are some issues that are a definite go/no-go for me, while others fall under a grey area and may be situationally and geographically dependent. This guy knows how to get it done. Currently there are some  tactics being used by hardcore hunters that some consider "new". Going in deep. Backpacking. Mobile hunting. Quartering and packing deer out instead of dragging it for miles. Well, Warren has done ALL of that for decades, long before it was cool! In this episode I discuss bareshaft tuning. What is it? Why is it necessary? How do you go about it? What are the steps? It really bothers me when people say, "I don't shoot a bareshaft at an animal, I shoot a fletched arrow." I think bareshaft tuning is a vital step in tuning your bow and arrow setup. It shows you what the arrow shaft REALLY wants to do out of your setup without the aid of fletching. However, every once in a while you come across someone who catches your attention for a good reason. Meet Cliff Cadet. His IG handle is @urbanarcherynyc. He doesn't fit the stereotype of a hunter. He's African-American. He's middle-aged. And to top it off, he lives in Queens. Somehow, an interest in archery and bow hunting was sparked inside of him and he's jumped head-first into the outdoor world. He is a very humble, open-minded guy who's Instagram account is filled with positivity and honesty. I love traditional archery. But I almost hate the term "Traditional Archery". Although the "trad" world is very open, accepting and helpful, there is definitely a subset of the genre that we refer to as the "Trad Police". Sights? Never! Aiming using your arrow? How dare you! Bareshaft tuning? Why would you want to do that? Don't you have feathers? Personally, I'm tired of listening to crusty old crumudgeons telling new shooter (who actually want to HIT what they're aiming at) that they're not "trad" enough. Hi folks! My name is Emrah Oruc and this is the very first episode of the Bowhunting Soul podcast. In this episode, I introduce myself, tell you a little bit about me, and set some expectations about this podcast. There are dozens (hundreds?) of hunting and archery related podcasts out there, and I listen to most of them. My goal with this podcast is to approach topics from a different angle than you may have previously heard.
