Paul and Corey Cross the Streams: S4E9 [I'll See You in Court: WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION (1957)]
16/06/2022 Duración: 01h06min“I’ll see you in court!” is this month’s theme. A courtroom is about as dramatic as it gets, folks. Competing interests in which only one side can win and the power of the state is there to call the balls and strikes (allegedly). This week, Corey chose Witness for the Prosecution (1957). Based on Agatha Christie’s successful play (which she adapted from a short story), Witness for the Prosecution was co-written for the screen and directed by Billy Wilder. Starring Charles Laughton, Marlene Dietrich, Tyrone Power, and more – this film is truly a murderers’ row of talent. This Month's Theme: I'll See You in Court This Episode's Focus: Witness for the Prosecution (1957)

Paul and Corey Cross the Streams: S4E8 [New Wave: DAISIES (1966)]
26/05/2022 Duración: 01h23minNo dip into film history would be complete without a swim through New Wave. A movement born in France in the 1950s within the pages of the magazine Cahiers du Cinema – New Wave began when a group of adventurous film critics tried their hands at tearing down old concepts of film grammar and subjects and replacing them with kinetic, symbolic, and abstract examinations of social alienation, psychopathology, and sex! The French New Wave quickly (and, at times, not so quickly in some countries) caught on in countries across the globe, and filmmakers in dozens of countries took on the same revolutionary charge that began in France. In this episode, Paul chose to head east from England to Czechoslovakia to discuss Věra Chytilová's Daisies (1966). An absurdist feminist classic whose plot(?) can only be described as "Two young women look at a world gone bad and decide to be bad, too." Banned by the Czech government at the time of its release and Chytilová herself was blacklisted for nearly a decade, Daisies was and r

Paul and Corey Cross the Streams: S4E7 [New Wave: THE ENTERTAINER (1960)]
15/05/2022 Duración: 01h18minNo dip into film history would be complete without a swim through New Wave. This episode, Corey chose The Entertainer (1960), adapted by John Osborne from his play and starring Laurence Olivier who originated the title character. The British New Wave is quite different from pretty much every other country’s, and Paul and Corey discuss why this may be the case and why The Entertainer perfectly encapsulates this theory. There’s so much to discuss: music hall, pee

Paul and Corey Cross the Streams: S4E4 [Terrific-House Movies: JAWS: THE REVENGE (1987)]
24/03/2022 Duración: 01h06min“I have never seen it [Jaws 4], but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.” - Michael Caine Stars are just like us! They’ll take soul-sucking jobs purely for the money. And that’s what this month’s theme is: “Terrific-House Movies.” This week, Paul, of course, chose the film that kept Michael Caine from accepting his Academy Award in-person: Jaws: The Revenge (1987). Truly the worst film Paul and Corey Cross the Streams has ever covered. It (Thankfully? Possibly?) killed the Jaws franchise forever. It spawned a great NES videogame. It allowed everyone in the cast to get tans and hang out in the Bahamas. It got audiences excited to go to Universal Studios new attraction. It got Michael Caine a Terrific House. This Month's Theme: Terrific-House Movies This Episode's Focus: Jaws: The Revenge (1987)

Paul and Corey Cross the Streams: S4E3 [Terrific-House Movies: RUSH HOUR (1998)]
10/03/2022 Duración: 01h05min“I have never seen it [Jaws 4], but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.” - Michael Caine Stars are just like us! They’ll take soul-sucking jobs purely for the money. And that’s what this month’s theme is: “Terrific-House Movies.” This week, Corey chose Jackie Chan’s Rush Hour (1998). After a stint in Hollywood, Chan returned to Hong Kong and made brilliant action films. Then, he came back to America and cashed some checks. To be fair, he does incredible work in Rush Hour – far beyond what you’d expect for a film of this genre. Young Millennials love Rush Hour, but Paul and Corey are most assuredly not young Millennials! Buckle up, this movie sucked. Also, this film has a lot of CREEPS. You’ve been warned. This Month's Theme: Terrific-House Movies This Episode's Focus: Rush Hour (1998)

Paul and Corey Cross the Streams: S4E2 [Team Ups: TWINS (1988)]
24/02/2022 Duración: 01h07sFebruary’s theme is “Team Ups.” When Hollywood wants to pack butts in seats, sometimes, all it takes is a couple movie stars’ names above the title. And this week, Paul chose one that kinda echoes Corey’s: Twins (1988). A movie whose success seemingly benefited its stars and director in a surprising and monetary way beyond their wildest dreams. For everyone else - it sucks! A premise in search of a movie. Twins has as many writers as the main characters have dads. Buckle-up! This Month's Theme: Team Ups This Episode's Focus: Twins (1988)

Paul and Corey Cross the Streams: S4E1 [Team Ups: RAIN MAN (1988)]
10/02/2022 Duración: 01h14minHappy New Year and welcome back! We’re STAR-ting off 2022 with a bang. February’s theme is “Team Ups.” When Hollywood wants to pack butts in seats, sometimes, all it takes is a couple movie stars’ names above the title. And this week, Corey chose one that definitely, definitely fits the bill: Rain Man (1988). We had so much fun with Tom Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut, we brought him back. And then…Dustin Hoffman. The Willy Loman of #metoo. Paul and Corey discuss the film’s relationship with representation, and how, potentially, its success in raising awareness of autism may have made it age even more poorly than it otherwise would have. Also! Welcome to the world, Eva Jane Taskier Pepper! This Month's Theme: Team Ups This Episode's Focus: Rain Man (1988)

Paul and Corey both just have a hard time with the genre, so it's taken us some time to get around to it. This week, Paul chose a classic, The Blob (1958). Corey has a...personal relationship with this film, as well. Ultimately, the film was incredibly boring, but I don't know - maybe kids in the '50s just liked going to drive-ins. This Month's Theme: Ugh. A Horror Movie. This Episode's Focus: The Blob (1958)
-

07/10/2021 Duración: 01h12minIt's October...SPOOKY! This month's theme is "Ugh. A Horror Movie." And to do a little switcheroo, Corey is starting us off with a "neo-noir." Blood Simple (1984). PACCTS' second Coen brothers film and their first, Blood Simple may have been made on a shoe-string budget, but it contains so many seeds of what audiences would see from them over the years. You'll come for the hard-boiled drama, but you'll stick around for Dan Hedaya! This Month's Theme: Film Noir This Episode's Focus: Blood Simple (1984)
