When the rich young ruler met Jesus, he fell at his feet, desperate to understand what he was missing in life. Jesus told him the truth: that his identity was based on what he owned and accomplished, that he believed he was saved by success. To follow Jesus, we must let go of the security of our self-sufficiency. In fact, we must let go of our old identity completely.
