Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic allergic type 2 inflammatory disease characterized by a clinical and pathologic phenotype of progressive esophageal dysfunction due to tissue inflammation and fibrosis. Diagnosis of EoE is frequently missed or delayed, which can lead to such complications as esophageal stricture and reduced patient quality of life. Fortunately, targeted biologic therapies already approved for other type 2 inflammatory disorders are approved, or are in development, for the treatment of EoE and appear promising. This case-based activity will offer expert insights for recognizing and diagnosing EoE, monitoring and managing EoE, and integrating targeted therapies into practice.
