Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common inherited cardiac disease and has a mortality rate estimated to be about three times greater than that experienced by individuals of similar age without HCM. The FDA has recently approved a noninvasive, first-in-class cardiac myosin inhibitor specifically indicated for the treatment of HCM—meaning timely diagnosis of patients with HCM may reduce or delay the need for invasive treatment.
