Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common inherited cardiac disease and has a mortality rate estimated to be about three times greater than that experienced by individuals of similar age without HCM. The FDA has recently approved a noninvasive, first-in-class cardiac myosin inhibitor specifically indicated for the treatment of HCM—meaning timely diagnosis of patients with HCM may reduce or delay the need for invasive treatment. In this activity, based on a recent live symposium, expert panelists present practical skills and guidance to accurately diagnose HCM and apply recent treatment advances to patients with various clinical presentations of HCM. They begin by sharing the rationale for maintaining a high index of suspicion for HCM and review diagnostic strategies.
